Knowflakes,

What role do oppositions play in synastry? Are they critical to longterm compatibility?

We know that a conjunction is the aspect of unity. A relationship is a union of strangers. What does the opposition represent?

The conjunction is a given. However, can a romantic relationship survive without an opposition aspect?

Last year while researching an Aquarius I noticed all the leading people in his life had nMoon in Leo: girlfriend, best friend, mentor, and crush.

This lead me on a journey to figure out the meaning and role of the opposition aspect in relationships.

In my reading I've understood a relationship to be a union between the masculine and the feminine. The role of the feminine being the one who fosters the bond that unites the couple. The role of the masculine is to maintain the separation that makes each person an individual. To create space.

Can we deduce that the conjunction aspect is feminine, while the opposition aspect is masculine? Thus you'll need both to complete the circuitry of a relationship. Together the create the back-and-forth oscillation which functions as the beating heart of a union.

An opposition is like a full moon between the planets it occurs in. Its the union of perfect complementary energies. It also represents completion.

So what does the Full Moon represent in the Lunation Cycle.

I never saw the FM as completion. Always thought it was a reflection/revelation, or results of past efforts, but never completion as the cycle doesn't end at the FM.

I was thinking about oppositions last night.

You know what's interesting about them?

Each person inherents the other persons aspect to the planet which is opposite. This amounts to synastry which is the same.

Example: right now, I am inheriting a Jupiter/Uranus square to my Sun which is his natal aspect. While my partner is inheriting my Neptune square to his Venus. Which, natally I have to my Sun.

This carries a lot of dynamic! For one, great empathy because there's deep sensational insight into the other person's psyche. It's very direct, but of course very unconscious.

The potential for empathy depends on the aspects inherited and of course the people themselves.
