Think about this way. Say one person has really strong Aries in their chart, and the other person has very strong Libra, even if their respective symbols aren't technically in opposition they will still feel that opposition type connection.

It's more of an aura thing. Each Planet and Sign has its own associated vibrational range and corresponds to different colors and shades in one's aura. Say the person with the very strong Libra has a lot of cyan in their aura, and the person with strong Aries has a lot of red in their aura--it's that energy interaction and resonance that matters and what is really CAUSING the attraction-repulsion dynamics (that and/or other life connections and/or genetics/body reactions).

I have Leo ASC at 16* and Aqua Venus at 21*. I almost always STRONGLY notice women with Leo Mars or Aquarius, whether from 1* to 29* in those signs. It's just stronger and more immediate when actually close.
