I find it difficult to be able to work out the 'bigger picture' of our synastry. I can understand all the individual aspects etc. but I struggle to link things together.

For example, my Saturn is conjunct her venus and her Saturn is trine my venus, which, would mean for a hopefully long-lasting relationship, a sense of dependence/seriousness etc...

But then how do I link that in with what signs they're in, e.g. my Taurus Saturn conjunct her Taurus venus, her Scorpio Saturn trine my Cancer venus? What would that indicate?
Are the signs that important when looking at aspects, am I right in thinking they're like a lense / the colour of the aspects?

I know a lot about each of the signs, the planets, the houses etc. but... how do I piece it together!

I'm not sure if this belongs in Beginners or not, sorry if so.
