My adoptive mother just passed away unexpectedly (my Saturn return squaring nSun conjunct tUranus - further convincing me that Sun/Saturn indicate the dominant, not necessarily male, parent, and vice versa for yin planets). I had a very difficult relationship with her and had not spoken to her for 12 years; she had also been estranged from my father (her second, though longest lasting, of four husbands) and sister for several years. Her death has been shocking, as has her inclusion of us in her will. In cleaning out her house, we found her birth certificate which finally enabled me to confirm her birth time.

I am particularly interested in the nodes and karma, and although I've looked into others' family karma I've resisted looking into my own. Now seems like a good time, both for closure and research and to try to understand better a woman who always escaped my understanding. Furthermore, both my (younger) sister and I were adopted from different families, so I've always felt the karmic circumstances of my family members coming together were strong and a little strange.

However, I'm far from expert... I'd love to know what more experienced astrologers here notice and deduce from our charts. The most immediately striking thing to me is that my mother, sister, and I all have NN in the 6th house while my father has his opposite, in the 12th, but in Virgo.

Mother

Father

Me

Sister

Just so you know, I'm using sidereal zodiac and whole sign houses, not tropical.

Your mother:
- A lot of Aquarius energy. Sun/Moon/Venus(ASC-ruler) in Aquarius.
- Ruler of the 5th(Saturn) in the 11th/Leo. Saturn is weak in Leo. Saturn is also aspecting all those planets in Aquarius. 5th house in Aquarius indicates unconventional children, such as adopted children.
- North Node is in the 7th, not 6th. This makes someone bad at relationships, which would explain why she married several times.
- Second marriage is always represented by the 9th house. She has Uranus in Gemini in the 9th.

Your father:
- Father has his 1st-ruler(Sun) in the 3rd house(Gemini house), which fits your mother's 9th house(second marriage) in Gemini. He also has Uranus in the 10th, satisfying your mother's Uranus in her 9th.
- Your father also has his 7th house in Aquarius, which fits your mothers excess of Aquarius energy.
- 5th ruler(Jupiter) in 11th, indicating unconventional children, such as adopted children.

You:
- 4th-ruler(Mercury) debilitated in Pisces, indicating distant/absent mother. Both your biological mother and adopted mother are absent in some way.
- Moon(representing mother), in 11th, showing an Aquarian/unconventional mother, such as an adoptive mother.

Sister:
- Sun(representing father) in Aquarius, indicating unconventional father, such as an adoptive father.

So to summarize, A LOT of Aquarius energy, especially related to parents(for you/sister) or children(mother/father).

Thank you everyone for your condolences.

Thank you Bismarck for sidereal interpretation - I am not familiar with that system but my curiosity has been piqued a few times. I hope to look into it more when my schedule allows, but I personally identify more with my tropical chart. All the Aquarian energy in the family makes sense, though.

I know this is probably of little interest to anyone, but the astrology is helping me process my grief and understand my strange Aquarian family a little better...

It makes sense that my father was my mother's longest marriage -
- her Saturn on his North Node, squaring his MC/IC axis
- his Saturn trine her Mercury (conjunct his Vertex) and squaring her Mars. I think she was the most peaceful/least violent with him - partly due to his highly Libran nature, but maybe his Saturn helped restrict her volatility (physical and verbal).
- With his Vertex on her Mercury (Aquarius, her H3) - she moved out of the country and pursued a much higher education level through/because of him.
- Her Neptune opposes his moon while her Pluto/Ceres trines it. I don't think he ever totally got over her, and he never remarried even though he had several opportunities.
- Her moon squares his MC/IC axis. So I'm very curious about these DW squares to MC/IC.
- his Chiron is on her MC while her Chiron squares his AC/DC. Her Chiron and Vesta are in his 4th house. (She was able to have children and he wasn't; this was a sore point, hence my and my sister's adoptions, which my father opposed due to their late age by then.) Her Uranus sextiles his Chiron.
- They each had a confluence of personal planets in the same signs as each other's south nodes. Between that and the Chiron action, it seems there was a lot of karma and wounding/healing going on. She betrayed him and he never stopped helping her, while I think his emotional distance and lack of passion wore on her over the years and maybe hurt her self-esteem.
Anyway she cheated on him after twenty years of marriage (and I'm betting had cheated on him several times) and left him for another man, took his children away, but continued to steal from him and use him for money, etc. All of which he was fairly complicit about. He never stood up for himself. It's like all that Libra energy overpowered his Aries moon, in this instance and throughout his life.

She is outside, he is inside.

I know this is not the most sophisticated analysis, but I'm shooting from the hip here and not at my mental best. Like I said, it's helping and I will return just to add data and interpretation in case it ever helps anyone with their own astrological riddles.

Astrology isn't going to tell you much directly about the actual causes and karma behind these connections. It will just symbolically reflect those.

You would be better served by things like past life regression, finding a talented/skilled intuitive with a specialty in other life type attunement, deep meditation and asking guidance, or the like, to find out the true causes and karma.

Once you find out some of that, then "matching" it to the astrology will be interesting and enlightening, and will help to teach you more about the symbols and their multi-faceted meanings and associations.

Thanks for the bump, Randall!

Galactic, thank you for such worthy advice as always. I wonder where and how I can find such a person for help. I have had some dream guidance, but I have to piece all these disparate dreams together... I know I was a mother who had to abandon a child in a past life, and also that I was involved in the cult of Eleusinian mysteries. Other things less related to this.

My sister goes to someone who's told her more of her past links with our parents and her husband - specifically, she and my dad were siblings in the past.

I forgot my parents' composite:

Anyway here is my synastry with my mother. She is outside.

And our composite:

I'm surprised nothing shows up in the composite 4th house. The grand trine between Nessus, Neptune on the IC, and moon/Venus makes a lot of sense though. She was a violent alcoholic and it was really the most painful relationship in my life that set me up for a lot of subsequent self-abuse. I'm getting better now, but as a teenager I responded with violence as well. Vertex conjunct Mars also indicates violence, right? With the NN conjunct Lilith composite I can see how we brought out the "dark feminine" in one another.

In the synatry, her Mercury squaring my sun is no surprise. Much of what she said damaged my self-esteem and stuck with me through the years, even leading to sudden suicidal urges that seem to leap out of my unconscious at the most inopportune moments. I'm very surprised her Pluto makes no hard aspects, though I'm curious about mine on her ascendant.

I know there is a lot more information there, but I'm having trouble extracting what is most relevant. If anyone has particular things that jump out at them, I'd be grateful for your analysis. This was really a confusing and damaging relationship that I want to understand in order to heal.

I'm just heartbroken over what happened to my family, to each of us, because of this woman. I don't want to sound blamey and that I'm using her as a scapegoat, but there's no way around it.
