..with real life. Do you think that's because we're not supposed to know at the moment (like whatever our Significator is) that there are events still needing to take place before we ask?

Could be what you mention, although you might be able to read that in the chart.

Other reasons are that people often ask multiple times the same question, we would not always know about it, some people manipulate with the time, b.e. they make sure that the moon is not VOC when asking or other stuff that influences in a way they don't want.
People ask frivolous questions, or use horary for fun and testing, I know, not to judge, but sometimes you wonder ,
People can have hidden motives, or a hidden question, they don't say that, b.e. if somebody asks if they come into money soon, the main question might be if Auntie Hannah is going to die soon.
People make mistakes with charts, times, dates, locations. They might not be aware of that. That is why I don't read chart without all his information, as I have at times found discrepancies while running the chart on my own software.
Different systems are used, house systems, what houses are used for certain questions etc, to get the basic right is the most important thing.
And no predictive tool is 100 %, no astrologer is, so there is always a chance that there is a wrong reading.
People might not always tell the truth about the outcome of a chart for what ever reason.

i think horary only works when you are emotional about the subject at hand, not when your fear based or anxiety ridden like a lot of us use it for (me included). kind of like Suze Orman's advice about how to spend your money - only do it if what you're spending on truly makes you happy and you really want it, and don't do it out of fear. just felt like adding that for some reason.
