...and my Jupiter, Mercury, Asc fall smack in the middle at about 20 Cancer.

(off topic: Are the Nakshatras all the same size in degrees? And, is the Ashlesha Nakshatra exceptionally large? and, off off topic, where can I find information (vids or lit) about planets other than the moon in the Nakshatras? Is that relevant to Vedic astrologers? I ask because I found YouTube videos on the moon in the Nakshatras and Padas, but nothing about other planets in the Nakshatras)

I am truly fascinated that the Ashlesha Nakshatra brings some of the negative results mentioned by astrologers.

Insincere
Confused
Moves like a snake
Deceitful
Obsession or deep knowledge of the occult
Observant
Intuitive
Energetic, with Mercury and Rahu
Uses people, or..
Understands through interaction

(I'll post links to my sources)

Ashlesha, depicted by the snake, is Cancer's other possibilities... There's plenty of negative potential with this placement, but I think a planet here can also psychically detect or work positively with this energy.

Now with Mercury and Jupiter in this Nakshatra, 2nd Pada I think, I'd really like to know how they operate here. Somehow I think this placement explains why I thoroughly enjoyed the movie The Wolf of Wall Street, and on a deeper level, explains why "evil" isn't a word I use. And why I am comfortable examining and openly discussing the paths of life driven by grief, fear, lust, desire, and extremes in general.

I also wonder if the conjunction of Asc, Mercury, and Jupiter in this Nakshatra explains why I always think about the meaning of "right" and "wrong", and maybe it's why I can learn deep life changing lessons in places and conditions others might consider dark, taboo, unfavorable.<<<gosh, I like to be in 'dens'..like a snake!

There is a topic below yours that I posted about Jupier. My jupiter is in Ashlesha and mercury conjunct in Pushya in my 11th house. It means that it would make me highly intellectual and a good investigator for the heart or truth of the matter.

http://kuberastrology.blogspot.com/2010/02/nakshatra-ashlesha-constellation-and.html

Ashlesha Nakshatra Characteristics, Karka rashi, four padas as per Indian Vedic Astrology

Ashlesha Nakshatra is ruled by Mercury and its deity is the Serpent or Shesh- Naag. Its symbol is like a circle or coiled snake. Ashlesha born natives have penetrating eyes, sharp insight, strong intuition, cunningness and secretive nature. Like serpents, they can cling around with an idea; or person exhibiting false intense love and affection. They have very strong sense of attachment with opposite sex and can go to any extent to meet their objectives. If required, they can use their poisonous cunning intellect to defeat their enemies. They have stout body and slightly pale complexion and hot temperament. They are over sensitive to external environment and do not trust people easily. They will always have something or the other to doubt everybody; and even their close friends and relatives are not excused. They are so suspicious in nature that they can hire detective to keep eye on their spouse. They appear humorous initially but actually they are cold blooded and ruthless. They have inherent quality of leadership and eagerness to grow very fast. They can manipulate any situation to climb the ladder of success. It’s very difficult to stop and compete with Ashlesha natives. They can sense the forthcoming problem quite early and will be well prepared even before the problem arises. Ashlesha as you know combines Moon + Mercury. This combination itself is clear indicative of the individual profile. This is one of the most mean and selfish Nakshatra of the zodiac and we should not expect any kind of emotional relationship from them. Although Ashlesha natives generally victimize others but if natural benefic planets are placed in this Nakshatra, they themselves are victimized by others. Ashlesha natives may have bad friend circle involved in illegal activities. Their behavior generally surprise people as they react exactly opposite to what situation demands. For example, they may not show any expression of happiness listening to any auspicious news; and may have smile on their face on someone’s death. Their education is generally in commerce or arts.

Afflicted Ashlesha native may become big crooks, greedy, alcoholics and have loose character. They will have illicit profession and black money. Or they loose the track of life completely depending upon planetary combination. They themselves may not know what to do, how to do and where to go. They totally loose the insight and intuition. In some case, serious psychological disorders are also seen.

Ashlesha Nakshatra Marital life: is generally good in the beginning on sexual terms as they are very keen for mating. But their own relatives may secretively create differences among husband and wife to achieve their personal illicit motives.

Ashlesha Nakshatra Health: Natives are generally over-eaters; and may have fat body. They easily get addicted to alcohol and other bad habits. They are prone to problems like indigestion, overweight and nervous breakdowns.

Ashlesha Nakshatra Professions: Liquor industry, cigarette industry, poisons, drugs, pharmacists, commerce, arts, gamblers, share traders, marriage bureau owners, chemists, piracy business, blackmailers, photographers, doctors, psychotherapists, detectives, prostitutes, hypnotists, tantrik of lower levels, occult, cheats, frauds, snake dealers, automobile oils, modern fake saints who cheat people and sexually victimize their own followers of opposite sex, high society call girls etc.

Body parts ruled by Ashlesha Nakshatra: Nails of our body are ruled by Ashlesha Nakshatra

Tree indicated by Ashlesha Nakshatra: Sandalwood tree covered by serpents.

I pada of Ashlesha Nakshatra

It makes the native work hard to achieve his/her career objectives. They know the art of handling their enemies tactfully and always prove themselves superior in comparison to their colleagues and seniors. They can be recognized by their fair complexion, big body, big teeth and good features.

II pada of Ashlesha Nakshatra

The negative traits of the Nakshatra are seen here. Natives born in this pada will be highly shrewd and will not hesitate to pull down anybody to achieve their end objectives. This is the most difficult Nakshatra pada to handle and people born in this pada can not be trusted. They can be recognized by their boiled egg like body, protruded veins and Crow like appearance. They mostly do not have their own house; even if they have one, you will see them living in a rental flat.

III pada of Ashlesha Nakshatra

People born in this pada can be trusted but overall nature will remain same as above. One can easily recognize natives of this pada as they have inverted V shape head and flat nose. They will normally walk very slowly and give lazy appearance. They will generally be suffering from skin disease.

IV pada of Ashlesha Nakshatra

This is the pada where Ashlesha natives are themselves victim instead of victimizing others. They have to work hard to maintain any relationship in life. If this pada is afflicted, it gives serious psychological problems. They generally have fat body, broad chest, fair complexion, long lips and fish like eyes.

I have several (Western) Leo midpoints in my chart and Leo covers my 11th house, I often pull these people in & superficially get along but I gotta say this is my least favorite nakshatra (particularly as Moon, Mercury or Mars)

I find a disproportionate amount to be acting out the low end of the Ashlesha vibration to be fairly devious w/ questionable or no morals and in general selfish/cold blooded. (I'm a Swati Moon.) They are also very competitive & vengeful (both female & male) and will nurse a grudge for years if they feel they've been slighted or wronged! You may not even know but they will be sure to "get you back." And they have some of the best memories ever and will recount every little grievance back to you, even YEARS after the fact, in the middle of a normal conversation. Talk about NOT letting something go!

They are also brilliant researchers and investigators so...helpful for work, not so great in the personal relationship sphere.

I am very freedom oriented, these types are very controlling and clingy and and keep people around for security and usery purposes. Ironically, they are more prone to cheating due to insecurity re: getting enough resources or affection. If they feel safe in a relationship, they may finally settle down but it takes a very good fit for these folks to truly feel at ease. They trust almost no one.

Talking is their game - they do make good orators and salespeople & can be very persuasive if you let them talk long enough and wear you down so I limit the exposure as well as access to information.

These people are very smart and controlling and the main way they try go control or damage is through information. Squeezing dirt or information out of you and holding it over you later. Or probing to find out all your weak points and insecurities in order to manipulate you. They tend to be bullies in a verbal sense that roust others publicly or embarrass others in a way that seems humorous but is a bit mean underneath. Gross & low tactics in my book.

They may get along with you for years and then suddenly, turn on you with no qualms whatsoever like nothing ever happened.

Curiously, they are quite adept at understanding the "toxic" side of things and poisons and quite savvy re: drugs and drug interaction and medicine. They will tolerate pharma type drugs better than most and usually, there is some on going form of low level chemical dependency (that is not naturally based.) I used to have a boyfriend who actually said he loved the smell of cigarettes and gasoline! (That's Ashlesha Ascendant & Moon for ya) lol

Last thing I have noticed is that folks with heavy amount of Ashlesha do not say thank you when you do nice things for them. A peculiar quality I've seen called out but often true.

Sorry for the Ashlesha bashing - this is one constellation when I see it I tend to get very wary around.

All of those negativities can in no way be attributed to someone based off of a connection with this nakshatra. Sure there may be some who happen to have it that fall under this category but you must take the whole chart into consideration before making a character judgement! amma had Mars debilitated in Aslesha and Gandhi had moon in Aslesha. Also, these are just tendencies, we all have free will and can most definitely thwart negative tendencies with strong will power. I know murderers who's Lagna and moon fall under "nice" nakshatras and saints under demon ones

Amazing! I know people who have planets in that Nakshatra that instead of being deceitful, they were the deiceved ones. I have a person of my family with the Sun and Moon in Ashlesha and he was cheated by friends and intimate partners several times. The whole picture should be checked.

All nakshatras are of the same size 13 deg 20 mins
27 nakshatras x 13 deg 20 mins = 360 deg
The moon nakshatra is most important as the moon is the most important planet in vedic astrology readings, when many planets(apart from moon)/ascendant are in a particular nakshatra those planets and points take the qualities of the nakshatra, the ascendant nakshatra tells us a lot about our personality and behavior
Our moon nakshatra tells us about our physiological/psychological processes and manner in which we experience the material world through our senses
I gave an explanation of aslesha nakshatra based on my understanding on another forum,
Here is the link, read post # 84, this lady had her moon in aslesha nakshatra http://forum.astro.com/cgi/forum.cgi?num=1453150626/80
Let me know if u relate to those observations
The houses ruled by mercury/Jupiter will be influenced by aslesha qualities, the significators of those houses can be linked to the qualities of this nakshatra

Wow! Your description is very good. Ashlesha doesn't scare me at all. First, I know myself well. The good and the bad, and how the good easily becomes the bad, and vice versa. I hate any kind of oppression or cruelty, but the things others might consider taboo or immoral I have no problem with. I mean I might support restrictions or restraint for the good of society, but I do not hate or react in fear to the things other people do.

Sex and dancing you mentioned...I even combined the two at one time in my life.

I like how you described how a snake protects her eggs. It's one of the best descriptions of my own mothering style. When my children were vulnerable I was very possessive and protective. Some people thought I was extreme at times. Those same people are surprised to see me send my 11 & 9 year old daughters abroad for 3 months to visit grandma, and be totally fine with it. I have an interesting conversation style with my older children. I talk straight to them. I can't "leave the nest", but now that they are older my instincts toward them are different, and a certain aspect of my previous mothering style is gone. I treat them like adults even though they aren't. I'm fully aware that they aren't adults. It's my way of preparing them for when I'm really gone, or not with them everyday. The sharp contrast between a snake protecting her nest and then going to hunt is relatable.

I am not a social climber, but I have never had a nonfunctional friendship or partnership. I see my closest girlfriend once every 6 months- sometimes more, sometimes less. When we see each other we get right to it-deep soul searching conversations. We both get a lot out of our meetings. When hanging out, which I rarely do, it's not with my friends. I don't have friends like that. I go to dinner and functions with my brother's friends, enjoying for very short time the relationships he's taken the time to maintain.

I cannot commit to a man without serious ambitions. I don't need to be connected to his success, but I feed of his energy and drive.

You should copy paste that response to this forum. I was going to, but I thought I should ask first.

ETA: People are very transparent to Ashlesha, I think.. If I have fears, they are of my own anger an inability to forgive what I see. Sometimes I can deal with it. Sometimes I need to keep to myself... I can count those in my inner circle (and not in my family) on one hand. I don't even need the whole hand.

hi

i dont have a website, just been studying astrology ( western and vedic ) and numerology for the past 9 years, my only major hobby but its become almost second nature to me, noticing human behavioural patterns all around

i do have a facebook blog where i write about numerology/astrology with real life examples

here is the link
www.facebook.com/AstroNumero27

i am quite active on the forum which i posted a link of in my earlier post, u can read my posts there on different topics

but always eager to discuss astrology and interact with other astrology lovers and learn new methods/experiences etc

you can copy paste my post on this forum, i am cool with it

there are some additional characteristics of aslesha nakshatra which i have observed and discovered but they are bit too sensitive to discuss out in the open, if u would like u can contact me by email in my profile and we can discuss further
