Hi,

I'm familiar with Western Astrology, and want to get more familiar with Vedic Astrology.

Do the concepts transfer over well and what's a good guide online to learn Vedic 101.

I've been reading a lot on Vedic astrology lately and IMO try to detach yourself from your tropical chart when reading your vedic chart. What people usually can't get over is how most (if not all) their planets changed signs (sometimes even houses) in their vedic chart, for instance if you are so in love with your Sagittarius rising, you may find it hard to accept that you're a Scorpio rising in vedic. But if you read up on this rising sign, you will find relevance to your life, not completely but generally. Moon is the most important planet in your vedic chart, and also your rising (which describes different aspects of your life), and Sun. And if you're married, thinking of marriage, or have reached your 30s, pay attention to your Navamsa too. Aspects are also different in Vedic... it's not like western astrology. I got very confused with this for awhile. KRS Channel offers a lot of all these basic information.

There're also stuff like benefic/malefic Yogas which I still find complex as some can be written off. And then they have Darakaraka (planet of lowest degree), Atmakaraka (planet of highest degree) etc etc... you should just go step by step or you will get overwhelmed.

Hank Friedman at www.learnastrologyfree.com has a good start guide for Vedic astrology which you can find on the navigation bar on the main page.

Welcome to Lindaland, AStudyofAstrology
Thanks for sharing the link!

It's interesting to see the way he organized his website.

Hank Friedman's website is so informative --
even includes many pages on Chocolate recipes.

What a gourmet.

Hi ScorpieScorp!
I'm trying to gain some knowledge too.
Been having a hard time to wean off the Western, but am getting better at it.

quote:
Hank Friedman

I realized that I needed to "compartmentalize my brain."
I had to keep all that I had learned and mastered in Western astrology separate from what I was learning about Vedic astrology -- or it would get just too confusing. For the first three years of intensive study, that's what I did -- kept the two astrologies strictly separate.

Only after becoming more facile with Vedic astrology could I then begin to see how each astrology complemented and informed the other, a process that continues to be more and more enriching.

I strongly suggest to any reader that it is nigh impossible to learn both astrologies at once. Really master one of them -- Western or Vedic -- for many years before you attempt to study the other. Even with over twenty years of study and practice as a professional Western astrologer, learning Vedic was a challenging task for me.

But definitely worth it."
