Now, I admit that I have alot of confusion MYSELF as to what I am supposed to be doing .... My mom says it is because I 'get' others direction that I probably need to remain open to so many careers, directions, etc so that I do not become prejudice against any of them. I think she is correct in many ways .... because I tend to explore the wonderful aspects about all proffesions. However, I sometimes think my Mom is in denial that I have a chronic problem of indecision Poor Mom.

There is a terrific book which I picked up last year, and it is truly amazing and simple.

"I could do anything if I only knew what it was" by Barbara Sher

She has so many excercises in there that are proactive, fun, and EASY (ie, procrastinator friendly). There are so many blocks that we have to persuing our vocations EVEN IF WE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE and this book helps us to understand why that is.

When I was 18, I too wanted to be a career adviser, then I became a school teacher. Some people are more generalists than specialists. Still, I think it's a time of specialists and we need to find a "niche", that's why I'm doing that nutrition course.

Yep, looks like a "must" book, this "if only I knew"

Also the book Awakening the Heroes Within by Carol Pearson could be insightful.

I could post or e-mail the questionnaire to find your active archetypes, but then I won't type the whole book with the descriptions..

You can see from it if you are in the preparation stage (proving yourself to the world), transformation stage or maturity.

Also the book The Purpose of Your Life by Carol Adrienne, close to Celestine Prophecy's author. In it, the Nine Career Paths:
Add all the numbers of your DOB; eg Dec 14 1967 = 1+2+1+4+1+9+6+7=31=4

1=PIONEER
2=NURTURER
3=COMMUNICATOR
4=DOER
5=DISSEMINATOR
6=TEACHER
7=RESEARCHER
8=EXECUTIVE
9=PHILOSOPHER

(According to it, I'm a 6. sigh)

According to my desktop calculator on my comp (of my favorite pilot from an anime called Gundam Wing, he even speaks japanese as you go- kawaii!) I'm a 5.

What exactly is a disseminator..?

Also, I don't quite know if any bookstores around here carry those books. Do Barnes and Noble carry these books, or would I have to go somewhere else? Mind you, I can't go to amazon or anything due to a lack of credit cards or the like as much as I want to. Age restrictions are cruel.

Thanks for the time and recommended reading, though!

A disseminator spreads something widely (usually information of some type). I'm a Teacher.

Oops, back from mushroom hunt...

I'm not convinced it suits everybody I know, but it's always fun!

1) Pioneer: original, assertive, bold, charismatic, impulsive, innovative, focused, inspired, quick, achiever
Pitfalls: arrogance, impatience, not listening

4) Doer: pragmatic, systematic planner, determined, problem-solver, builder, manager
Pitfalls: stubborness, workaholism, efficiency is God

5) Disseminator:active, magnetic, outgoing, risk-taker, quick thinker, unpredictable, entrepreneurial, curious
Pitfalls: scattered, unreliable, dilettantism

6) Teacher: careful, conscientious, reliable, nurturing, service/community- and family-orientated, traditional
Pitfalls: overbearing, smothering, martyrdom

8) Executive: business-like, conservative, powerful, analytical, big picture thinker, pragmatic, decision-maker
Pitfalls: domineering, cold, judgmental

9) Philosopher: open-minded, loves history, literature, arts, higher education, long-term, global view
Pitfalls: vagueness, talking not doing, unmotivated

(the rest another day maybe!)

Arigato! It seems I'm good at spreading word, but I am a very good therapist/psychologist type as well.

My fiance is a philosopher. He was slightly confused about it and then immediately shrugged it off for a new idea he had

Marigold, thanks for the writeups; also, it is fun! You learn new things, and laugh and agree or disagree. Learning should always be fun, though..

Hmm, 7 is: RESEARCHER
innovative, intelligent, deep, careful, spiritual, scholar, loner, curious, analytical
Pitfalls: contentious,skeptikal, secretive

I must say I prefer Carol Pearson's book, I may post the questionnaire if I have the energy to type it...

OSheen~ Jeesh, how did I miss this thread? I must have still been computerless when you opened this thread - but what is awesome is that it was about the time of your posting that I actually saw this author on television - and was MIGHTILY impressed She's a very cool lady!

Marigold~ Interesting the career path based on a birth number... I'm not surprised either that I'm an 8 - I even USED to be guilty of the pitfalls when I was a young thing

Executive, believe it or not! Gee, does anyone see me as the excutive type?! But I guess it actually goes right along with being the Benevolent Ruler on the other thread....
