I would appreciate anyones insight on the messages put out on kids t.v. shows. I try not to let my kids watch too much. (at times i fail) but does anyone notice that certain shows, commercials, etc. kids seem to be hypnotized by? My daughter loves teletubbies but i'm not so sure of the general message : a pack of poorly pronounced (but cute) creatures with t.v.s on their tummys and antennas on their heads? She also likes boohbah which i approve of after finding out that the boohbahs are colorful atoms filled with energy. I just get paranoid that these "hypnotic" programs may have messages that i don't approve of that only my kids are noticing.

I dont have kids but when I do they wont be watching too much TV. There are some great shows on television and I am not against it (although I dont watch it). I think it has it's good points but too much of anything is bad.

Looking back I'm greatful my mother didnt let us watch alot of TV. We rarely had cable anyway but when we did watch it, it was only for an hour of two before she would shut if off and we'd have to find something else to do. At the time we didnt like that but now I see how it has helped me become who I am. I think TV, especially more so now a days, desensitizes people and keeps them from using their own imagination.

About subliminal messages. I'm sure they are there and that is another reason I dont watch it.

Just my two cents.

Hi 26, You're totally right about the imagination thing so I guess the bad pronounciation and lack of structured activity is better. I often put those music channels on and my kids love to dance. It's good exercise and also hilarious to watch. I usually put on music without words or salsa and spanish music they love the fast pace.

Heehee. That's cute. I remember doing that as a kid. I loved to dance around the living room to that show Solid Gold. LOL

The teletubbies creep me out.

Same here Randall. I remember the first time I stumbled upon that show without knowing who they were yet - so freaked out. But mesmerized at the same time. I couldnt change the channel even though I was creeped out. I ended up watching the whole show with my mouth hanging open a little bit. LOL

My cousin said that the mere presence of the sun in the teletubbies show makes her 3 year old son freak out.

Hi All,
I am, totally, freaked out by the Tele-Tubbies and, my 2 peeps are too. My Daughter is a BooBah fan, however. They are kinda,... odd.. but, they don't scare us, at least My 2 like Nickelodeon, especially SpongeBob and, Fairly Odd Parents... which, I have even become a fan of! My girlie loves Dora and, that is actually, a great show because, it teaches Spanish. The newest, in a recent up-rising of some of the religious groups, whities,( here in Colorado anyway), is that, the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon is, a cartoon that is, in some way, " teaching " homosexual behaviour...? They claim that the Flinstones cartoon, does too... Unbelievable!! Apparently, things are slow lately, in the ' Holy Land '.... fer Chr!st's sake,.... please, Evolve already, huh? Anyway, I agree and, try very hard, to not let the television be my 'babysitter'. I was lucky, growing up, I had a horse! I am grateful, that my 2 are, very, active, by nature and, can't sit still long enough to ' Zone Out '. When they, finally, run out of steam, they don't make it through the theme song beginning.... hehehe! Moderation, is definitely, the key!

.... just popped back in and, for fear of any confusion, I wanted to clarify that, I DO NOT, agree with the religious fanatics in CO - In ANY way -
Ok. Sorry, .... it's late.... and, I have a knack for leaving, most, in a slight confusion!

For sure Tracy!
I'll be vey selective with my Children.
And besides kids shows, subliminal messages are abundant on television!
As an example, on playschool once, the host was telling a familiy story to express a type of moral, but the story included, two mothers. Instead of Mother and Father. At first I thought maybe it's ok because it help kids realize that it's not a shocking thing for a friend to have two mummies, but at the same time there was uproar because the type of message was seen as seeding messages into the childrens subconsious.
Im not going to say my opinion, but that is what happend, I'll find the article soon.

As for the teletubies, I suppose it's saying Television is something you can Trust, something that is great, it's your FRIEND.
When in reality it can be a mind warping, controlling tool.

I recently saw a very intruiging documentry about the psycology of marketing and advertising. There is a well known man in this field who knows a type of formula to market a product on the bases of ego, and society conditioning. His job is to help a company come up with something diabolical to reach the weakness in a human.

And I'm worried what type of subliminal messages I'm getting through regular Tv.

So really, the less Television, the better it is. I want my Children to think for themselves, and not what Television tells them to think.

Hey SunChild,
It has been my experience, that tv, without a doubt, alters the way I think. I have'nt watched tv, at all, for 2 years until just recently. Even though I am around it more now, I still cannot sit through anything, even The Fairly Odd Parents cartoon! I believe and, always have, that the media CREATES and, feeds human weakness'.
I ,also, take the things that my kids hear, watch and, pick up from tv, their school, friends and, even family, and talk to them about it. This gives them perspective that, otherwise, they might not get elsewhere and, just that differing angle, is enough to keep them thinking..... I hope that they always keep their minds OPEN, because then, I feel anyway, that they will be true to what Really Is their own opinions and, not someone else's.

Great thoughts girls. I agree with all that's been said. It's really disheartening, to say the least, to think of all of the kids who do grow up in front of the television.

P.S. You are going to make a great parent one day 26. Based on your posts and the fact that you're a sensitive taurus. Heck I can barely tell you're not already a great parent.

Thank you tracy. That is probably the best compliment I've ever gotten. Maybe someday. Although I'm beginning to think it probably won't happen. But thank you, you brightened my day.

From what I can tell, you sound like a wonderful mother yourself.

I'm sure if you are waiting and haven't had luck, there must be a very good reason. I'm blessed with very well behaved and independant children that prefer not to play with me ALL the time. For this I am allowed alot of quiet time to think and they love to hear me read anything, but in most cases kids aren't like that, most kids want and need constant attention and it's very very hard to have time to yourself to do anything, especially if its only one child.I litterally had to stop all spiritual study with the birth of my first son (at age 17 on top of that) You seem very in tune with the universe and i'm sure you could go extrmely far with it. What does your lexi say? If you post it I will do. Maybe it will reveal you're mission. Besides, the more and more i've come to learn, the better mother i've become. Maybe, you were meant to learn alot to teach to your children, children are our future afterall. Thanks back to you too, I try my best at motherhood.

Your children sound very special.

I havent been waiting or hoping for them because I've never been in a position where I felt like I wanted to have children with any of the guys I have been with. Either the situation wasnt right or the guy wasnt. I havent been in the position financially to have children and I dont want to bring a child into the world until I am. My feeling is, if it happens it happens. If not that's okay too. I'm not absoulutely sure I want to bring a child into this world anyway. Alot of people have kids based on their own needs. Their own want for one. There are too many orphans and abused children in the world and I think some people are a little selfish in their needing of a child. Some people think of them as objects or another posession they want to add to their lives. I know not everyone is like this but some are and it's sad. Then they find out that they werent cut out for parenthood and plop the kid in front of the TV all day or send them off to be raised by a nanny or babysitter. Anyway....

Hey, that would be great if you wanted to lexi my name. I've done it before but never had anyone else do it. The letters are in BlueRoamers post to pixelpixie in Lexigrams on the second page of that string.

Again I want to say you are such a good mother and I really admire that. I read about all of the books you are getting and reading to your children in the other forum. I think that is so great. All the best to you and yours.

Thanks again 26. I agree also that it's sad that people have children for selfish reasons and neglect and abuse go on, and I think children are born for a reason, some to teach you a lesson and some to learn a lesson from you, it is really very sad that sometimes that lesson has to involve such negative behavior. Both of my children were unplanned and i regret nothing of having them, they have taught me many great thing about love, and patience and just how very special each individual is. I will check out your lexi and post it later. Thank you for all the flattery, I rarely hear much outside my children because i'm very much an introvert.

I totally agree. And I didnt mean to imply that unplanned pregnancies are a bad thing. I dont think that at all. As always, everything plays out the way it is supposed to. And I'm sure the parent/child relationship is the most amazing bond someone could have. So much to learn from those wise souls.

has any1 seen the cartoon "the grim adventures of billy and mandy"?
as if its not bad enough that one main character is the grim reaper, and the two kids are demented and wicked....
in some intermission segments ive seen, mandy announces the "law" by aleister crowley..."do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law"
this seems like a blatant agenda by the producers to introduce little children to adult occult themes....
i'm not the fundamentalist type to denounce such things as the smurfs or harry potter, but i wont let my kids watch that 1 cartoon....
