Hi thereI have a job interview coming up on Monday to work for a magazine. This is my very first job interview I'm going to so I don't know what to expect. Do any of you have hints and tips on how to make them want to hire me? How can I impress them? Thanks for your time. IP: Logged |

Wow! There are loads and loads of tips out on the internet, but I don't follow many of them.My big things are: *Be prepared. Have copies of your resume ready. Have references ready.* Dress appropriately. I use my own intuition to determine the amount of dress necessary. I always either get it right or overdress. * Don't be insecure. Be yourself. If you have to fake confidence, that's ok. Just don't be timid, or over-the-top. * Don't BS unless you're really really good at it. I can't BS myself, but I think that's ok. I think it's better to admit what you do and don't know. They're going to find out anyway. * Research the company you're going to work for if you can. * Accentuate the attributes you think they want. Just pic the best few, and use those as your talking points. Try to bring out examples of how you embody those traits.

Have answers to tough questions...greatest accomplishment, biggest failure, best trait, worst trait (should be something your employer would actually view as an asset), and lots of other lesser ones. ------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |

I interviewed here last week and one of the managers asked me: why would you be a good person for the job... then he said.. why would you not be a good person for the job. I stumbled on that one but got thru it. Try to take any negative and spin it with a positive for the employers benefit like Randall said. Example: what is your weakness...( Im a perfectionist and it bothers me when I can't complete my assignments because someone can't give me the information i need.) You get it...the employer would think well being a perfectionist is a good thing ...IP: Logged |
