Edit 8/22/2011: I should have done a simple google search to see people have already thought this up so it is not my idea.

----------------

Ok so here is my FREE idea for anyone that has the capital to make it happen, and make it work.

Take any vacant building, in any major towns or cities like this, or and an example of a really big building that could do this on a massive scale.

Use these on every level possible that is not devoted to processing the products. The first floor should be used as the sales floor/shopping area.

An elevator can carry material and products up and down as needed.

It could have potential for jobs and healthy foods.

Use healthy hydroponic plant foods as well so people will trust it.

It would be fresh that day.

These are advanced LED light systems I found, If the technology is pushed hard enough, You could use these plus solar panels to power the lighting systems.

Or utilize solar energy during the day via direct light conduits, and use the solar panel energy that is stored during the day, To power the led lights at night.

What do you guys think?

Lets bring agriculture into the respectable, Technologically Advanced, 21st century.

If electric savings can be made by solar, plus LED. This could be viable.

Long lasting as well, The sun is up everyday, and LED's last a very long time.

Less maintaining to do, I like having less moving parts on anything, less wear and tear.

Position the skylights and panels to make the optimum use of daylight, pick the buildings that would work best, and have good access for the public, This is key.

The shopping lanes should be designed for easy navigation, Less time trying to find what you need.

Less frustration makes for happier customers in any business.

Color coding things makes for quick reference.

Stable prices due to low energy costs, possibly.

Stable jobs because everyone needs fresh foods.

Everyone wants fresh foods of quality.

Excess products left over can be given to the homeless, The scraps is not the most dignified thing, but it is food in the stomach in any event.

Another problem, with a slight potential for success.

A homeless man or woman can at least have good eyesight and a full stomach by eating carrots.

utilize things that are free to use, and do no harm, first.

Most of the building can be mechanically ran, These work the best over the long haul.

Astronomy,Astrology can be used in the buildings creation.

It should be a symbol of Hope, Freedom, Health, Wellbeing.

While still being a profitable (within reason) business.

The good it would do would outweigh any profits anyway.

The plants would need to be categorized, and set up to have harvests coming weekly or possibly every couple of days for the popular products.

People like predictability, and scheduled harvesting can do that.

Small businessmen can start specialty shops that grow "Exotic" or Foreign fruits and vegetables if the bigger buildings are not focusing on them.

Just one extra way of sampling different things while being viable.

The small shops should not over dedicate themselves to any one thing, as these types of foods are more impulse buying than something "Needed".

These shops would be following trends more than anything, but this would allow the flexibility to allow the bigger buildings to focus on what is "Needed"

If these buildings ever started to over produce, well that food can be sold to people around that do not have these buildings.

It could still be fresh that day, just a little later than the city.

The farmer would go from the country, to the City.

A reversal.

These can be put, within reason, wherever the sun shines strong.

Instead of an un-inspiring strip mall everywhere I turn around.

Nothing wrong with shopping.

Water weight would be a problem, especially with any leaks.

A strong structure is needed, plus spill prevention/containment.

It would be worthwhile to see how much energy it would take to run a building like this for up to one week off battery power, Minimal systems running.

The chance of bad weather blocking the sun could hurt production.

Longer sessions of bad weather may require switching back to the grid until weather improves.

But production never stops. People need to eat.

These buildings would be supplying the local restaurants as well.

Again, people like fresh food.

I like places being as self sufficient as possible.

Builds good pride.

You could also use a building like this to grow products for ethanol production.

That way it does not take away from the food supplies.

That would take many buildings, Many plants to keep up with the usage we have.

Make cars that run better on ethanol I suppose.

Should be a way to balance that out.

Make a more potent ethanol, with modern car computers programmed to handle that.

For older cars, maybe a bolt on product, which is a win for car product design/manufacturers and if the ethanol can give more power, well that is what the "car nuts" like anyway.

That can be integrated smoothly.

Oh and motorcycles, atv, RVs, equipment. Many new things to be made, and old equipment to be updated, If it is reasonable prices this can be a big boom for manufacturing companies, something to export to the world maybe.

Unless someone beats you, Cause this is a world wide forum

Oh well, Its free for any that can do it.

Is bio diesel a viable idea for building based production?

Cooking oil right?

I think the smell of fried oil is better than diesel, but that just my opinion, and I know some people out there love diesel fuel for some strange reason.

Bio diesel for semi trucks or whatever is needed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiesel

Ok, so dedicate enough buildings to produce enough crops for the needed amount of oil, for the biodiesel we use.

Jobs, jobs, jobs

No drilling would be needed.

Most new vehicles could run biodiesel for high MPG

We could leave mother earth alone.

Make a better muffler that still sounds good, but helps filter any bad things from the biodiesel exhaust fumes.

More parts, More jobs.

Use whatever plant or plant mixtures needed to make a really great oil, for the fuel.

It should be the goal to design a fuel/motor system with as close to zero emissions as possible.

Somehow use all the fuel up, with much less waste.

Design jobs could be had here.

We need a jet fuel made from a plant product that we can grow in our buildings.

It would help if it is stronger than what is currently being used.

Parts need to be made, jobs.

Helicopter, Prop planes.

Adapters, or whatever is needed.

Parts and skilled help is needed.

Progress for everyone.

Plants and Nature can be the way of the future for us all.

Realistically, we grow everything needed for travel and part of the diet.

In high rise buildings, Using mineral waters, and as much of the suns natural energy as possible.

Two major problems.
