I am 43yr old professional actress/singer. I teach music (voice lessons) direct children's theater, teach comedy classes to women and do role playing (play criminals for police academy)I tried the NYC become an actress on Broadway thing 3 different times in my life and went to LA as well....no luck. I am just lost lately.....I am seriously wanting to do something completely different, spiritually, giving back. I can easily move anywhere in the world. I have no possession or serious commitments here in Washington Dc. I just want away from the crime, race, power, politics and ugliness that DC carries. I have even thought about joining the peace corp. Does anyone have any ideas??/ IP: Logged |

How about contacting the Veterans Admin and working with women-vets and their families?I bet there would be many places there that could use your talents. Homeless shelters, battered women and children. Elderly women's groups. What else have you found out? IP: Logged |

Hey mztiny You sound like you've had such an interesting life so far! I'm envious You can always post your birth chart. It might help to tailor the advice. Otherwise, I think doing something more service/spiritually oriented is a great idea, but in my experience these positions can quickly become overwhelming if you're not careful. If you haven't already, I would suggest taking some time to realistically take stock of what skills you already possess, the things you enjoy doing (and would like to continue doing), as well as your ultimate goals. Once you have those things hammered out, you can start researching organizations and see if their mission and vision align with what you bring to the table/want to achieve. There are a lot of "Peace Corps" type organizations out there that allow you to spend time overseas or even in the US volunteering/helping out individuals and communities. These might be something you'd want to look into as another option. http://www.crossculturalsolutions.org/peace-corps-alternatives http://www.projects-abroad.org/peace-corps-alternatives/ Another popular option is to teach English abroad too. With your experience as a teacher, I imagine this would be a natural fit for you. You can also start by volunteering for a cause you really care about. A lot of times people get jobs through organizations this way - you'll at least meet a lot of like-minded people and maybe one of them can point you to something full time. Lots of options. These are just a few ideas. Hope that was helpful and good luck! IP: Logged |
