Hi everyone, I think this is my first time posting in this area. Linda wrote that you should only work at what you love and it's better to do nothing than to do something you don't love. Was wondering what you think of that. Do you all love what you do? Would you or do you follow her advice? If you didn't love what you do would you do nothing instead until you found something you loved?

Hi LuckyLeo. What Randall says is true. Bills need to get paid. We have to start at 'something' to do, and FROM that point, work within yourself to find out what you think you would love.

It's amazing how sometimes we might think we wouldn't want a certain job or line of work, and WHEN we start doing it, we find out that our intuition led us to the right thing.

Choose a 'field' of work you'd think you'd love.
Get a job there... then you might spy a position you'd think is ideal for you.

Start "somewhere"..
Some general field.
Especially, if you're a younger person.
Prime the 'work' pump. Try things out.
Stick with it a while.
Get in a rhythm of life.

There is also something else that can come into play later-- determining whether you are "happy" with what you're doing-- in contrast with whether it feels "fulfilling" for you.

For some people, there's a difference between being "happy" at their work-- versus, whether it was part of their vocation (soul calling).

Yes that's the problem! Bills those pesky things

Thank you for the advise Mirage, I agree we have to start 'somewhere'... very true.

It's hard for me to think of what I might like to do because I have conditioned myself to just keep going with what I NEED to do to support myself. So I haven't given myself the luxury of thinking that way.

I am in a work situation that I'm unhappy in, but instead of being able to get myself out, I keep going on the merry-go-round.

It feels like I will never be able to get off the merry-go-round because my current situation takes all my time and energy.

I will come back to comment more, because I have more thoughts on this

If you could be anything career wise, what would you be? Have you considered college?

Every job that I've ever had was a stepping stone to a better, higher-paying job that I really wanted. As long as I don't hate everything about my job and I can find something that I actually like about it, I can stay in that job for as long as I need to.

I think that's a great way of thinking, SV. I will try to think similarly.

Randall, I actually did complete college. I know it's probably hard to believe I still feel trapped. It's hard to explain.
