As the owner of Linda's Cripple Creek Home since April 1995 I invite anyone to come take a tour or spend the night. Now known as The Last Dollar Inn Bed & Breakfast we are open all year. More about the house on HGTV: "If Walls Could Talk" Sunday Sept 24th @ 11:00pm ET & again Friday Sept 29th @ 6:00pm ET. House and Inn are currently for sale. We bought the home from Linda and it was still pretty much exactly the way it was when she left it. Linda's daughter Jill came to see it not long after we began renovating the home and said she felt that Linda would be happy that we named the largest room in the house after her as a tribute of sorts. Several of Linda's decorations & furniture still remain in the B & B since we felt they belong here. Come stay at the Inn and you can experience it nearly the same way Linda did when she owned the home.

Wolftrack...
sometimes we discuss coming there, Example: Annie once talked about us all meeting there. have you ever thought about setting up a annual venue where Linda fans could meet...though there are only 8 rooms...still 8 at a time might be a wonderful thing.

I am brand new here. I have stayed at Linda's house a few times (am lucky to live in CO). I have been planning a trip back in Oct so thank you for the invitation. I just couldn't help but, notice that you say the house is for sale. Did I read that correctly? Could you please let me know the details?

We have 6 guest rooms that sleep 2 adults each and have private baths. So a small retreat might work and we have suggested it in the past, I will see what I can come up with and let you know , perhaps April 9th & 10th would be a good time, but I will work on a few things and post a few ideas at a later date.
The Inn is for sale and can be found on ReMax's website under commercial property in Cripple Creek. You can get more information form that site along with a contact. We have several interested parties at this time but we will continue to operate the Inn until it is sold, at which time all prebooked rooms will be turned over to the new owners.

Wow, what a splendid find (this thread). Thank you!

But I must admit when I looked at the pics, I kinda lost the feeling of intimacy and warmth!

I don't get to this site often enough, but I thought I had shared my photoshow of The Last Dollar Inn. Good to see them post here; they are fabulous people. I drove by the other day and didn't see the For Sale sign though...

Since I can't find my old post, I'll repost the link to my slideshow of the house, which is lovely:

I have a somewhat sad story to share with my fellow Linda Lovers. Last month, I went searching for Linda's home in Cripple Creek. Melody, who works at the museum was very helpful and even had a few stories to share about Linda. How generous she was. How she would walk down to the cafe and sit for hours writing her books. I had to find Linda's house. Oh how I wish I had just stopped by the Last Dollar Inn and let her spirit fill me up there. If it remains a Bed and Breakfast, I plan on coming back!

Instead, I went searching for the house she built later in life. The one with the indoor pool, the beautiful stained glass. The one she showed us a picture of in one ofher books. It broke my heart to see this beautiful house so run down. Since there were no signs or fences or anything to tell me not to, I explored as much as I could of the outside. A Raven protecting her home fussed at me and I told him I came I came in peace and meant no harm. He kept an eye on me, but didn' fuss anymore.

I could feel the presence of Linda. We have something in common,we both are gimps. I lost my left foot a few months ago so I looked pretty harmless walking around with my little cane. I did take some pictures of the indoor pool, the stained glass, the mote that leads to her door, a very run down garden that leads to another door. There was trash thrown all over the place. It was so sad to see. As the home is vacant, I looked in windows and saw some stunning things. A fireplace, the entry hall, so much more. If anyone would like to see my pics, just let me know. I did spend a few private moments crying in the backyard, not understanding how something so beautiful could be so run down. I kept screaming, "I care Linda ~ I love you Linda ~ one day I will own this house and restore it to the glory you intended.

I hope none of you think I'm out of my mind. It was just something I had to do and it was my own little way of letting her know I still love her and her influence on my life has been one that I value dearly.

So, owner of the Last Dollar Inn, when I plan my next trip to Colorado, I hope to stay with you. Her spirit seems more there than it does her other home.

Sorry this was so long ~ I just had to share my story with you guys.

Patty the emotional Cancer!

pattymarkle, I hope you will share all your pictures with all of us..it is a shame that things have gotten run down, but remember everything happens for a reason, Linda was so generous, she gave of everything she had..she knew material things were not important..so she gave half away..
Please share with all of us, it seems only fair!

Hey guys! Thanks so much for your kind welcome to this wonderful group of people. I did email 'yourfriendinspirit" my pics. If anyone knows how I would go about putting them somewhere so anyone can access them, please let me know. Until I figure that one out, if you would like to see the pics, please email me at pattymarkle@myway.com and I'll be happy to send them on. They aren't great, but they are a small part of Linda.

Peace & Passion,
Patty

Here's Patty's own description of each as per her email to me:

am so new to sending pic over the intenet. Please work with me here! The first two are pics of the Last Dollar Inn, which is beautiful.

#3 is the driveway up to her house. You can see the deck and one of the stained glass windows.

#4 is another shot of the stained glass window.

#5 is me on the driveway going up to her house

#6 is the garage. To the right is a very torn up mote area that you would cross to get to one of her doors. You can see some of the bad wood. I climed across the mote, but my husband made me get down because it was very unsafe.

#7 is me looking in where the huge indoor pool is. I don't think I've even seen an indoor pool that had to be at least 12 feet deep. There wasn't any water in the pool and the room itself was beautiful. I could see a meditation garden and other Lindalike things.

#8 - Another shot of the indoor pool.

#9 -Yet another shot of the pool

#10 A beautiful stained glass window

#11 Me at the front door peeking in. You could see a beautiful entryway from there.

#12 - More stained glass

#13 - The back yard with all the trash thrown around. You could tell how beautiful this once was.

#14 - I look like a dog in this pic, but this was me leaving my Linda adventure. A good shot of her entire house.

If you know how to take these and make them available for others to see, please do. You gave me an email address and that's the only way I know how to do it. I'd love for anyone who wants to see them to see them, I'm just not very good at this.

Peace & Passion,
Patty

So here you go Patty in all it's glory for all of us to cherish!
