UP ON CRIPPLE CREEK ~ THE BAND

"When I get off of this mountain, you know where I want to go?

Straight down the Mississippi river, to the Gulf of Mexico"

The source of the Mississippi River is traditionally accepted as Lake Itasca, in Itasca State Park in Clearwater County, Minnesota. The name "Itasca" was chosen to designate the "true head" of the Mississippi River as a combination of the last four letters of the Latin word for truth (veritas) and the first two letters of the Latin word for head (caput).
...
The Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico about 100 miles (160 km) downstream from New Orleans, Louisiana.

"When I get off of this mountain, you know where I want to go?

Straight down the Mississippi river, to the Gulf of Mexico

To Lake Charles, Louisiana, little Bessie, girl that I once knew"

Bessie is a common or stereotypical name for cows. (Cows are commonly classified as Bos taurus.)
There are three Taurus states: Louisiana, Mary-land, Minnesota
The Mississippi River starts in Minnesota and empties in Louisiana (both Taurus states).

*ding, ding, ding*!!! (that's the cowbell sound)

Just stopping in to give a high-5 to a fellow hippie. I love your choice of music HRH.

I've always loved that song too.

We will never have music like that again.

Anyway, I might not know what you are always talking about, but we'd definitely choose the same channel on the radio.

Thanks T! =) I enjoyed the Jazz for Cows (and it looked like the cows did too ).

As you may already know, Linda Goodman lived in Cripple Creek and there is "rock-n-roll rumour" that the song, Up On Cripple Creek was written for her last child.

As a fan of The Band and astrology, have you seen the film Eliza's Horoscope?

As the role of "the Bearded Composer", Richard Manuel (The Band's pianist and regular lead singer) performed along with Tommy Lee Jones and former Playboy Bunny Elizabeth Moorman in the movie, Eliza's Horoscope.

Here's a scene with Richard Manuel of The Band, but the quality is terrible ... Richard Manuel in Eliza's Horoscope

This link is a little better quality--it's a scene with Tommy Lee Jones (playing Tom, an Aries) and Elizabeth Moorman (as Eliza, a Pisces)... Tommy Lee Jones in Eliza's Horoscope

Btw...

And I hadn't heard of the film. Thanks for the links! I'll check them out

Well, actually...I would guess them all, but the last one seems to have been appointed ringmaster of this carnival.

I'd bet it represents a T-Rex named "Sue"...

quote:
Sue Hendrickson, amateur paleontologist, discovered the most complete (approximately 85%) and largest Tyrannosaurus fossil skeleton known in the Hell Creek Formation near Faith, South Dakota, on August 12, 1990. This Tyrannosaurus, nicknamed "Sue" in her honor, was the object of a legal battle over its ownership. In 1997 this was settled in favor of Maurice Williams, the original land owner. The fossil collection was purchased by the Field Museum of Natural History at auction for USD 7.6 million, making it the most expensive dinosaur skeleton to date.

I call you on the telephone
My voice too rough with cigarettes
I sometimes feel I should just go home
But I'm dealing with a memory that never forgets

I love to hear you say my name
Especially when you say yes
I got your body right now on my mind
But I drunk myself blind to the sound of old T-Rex
To the sound of old T-Rex, oh and Who's next

When I say I love you, you say you better
(You better, you better, you bet)
When I say I need you, you say you better
(You better, you better, you bet)

You better bet your life
Or love will cut you
(Love)
Cut you like a knife

I want those feeble-minded axes overthrown
I'm not into your passport picture, I just like your Nose
You welcome me with open arms and open legs
I know only fools have needs, but this one never begs

I don't really mind how much you love me
Ooh, a little is alright
When you say come over and spend the night
Tonight, tonight

When I say I love you, you say you better
(You better, you better, you bet)
When I say I need you, you say you better
(You better, you better, you bet)

You better bet your life
Or love will cut you
(Love)
Cut you like a knife

I lay on the bed with you
We could make some Book of Records
Your dog keeps licking my nose
And chewing up all those Letters

Saying you better
You better bet your life

Who - You Better You Bet

By the way...having been granted statehood on the same day in November 2, 1889, South Dakota and North Dakota are both Scorpio Sun Sign states.

Well you're dirty and sweet, clad in black
Don't look back and I love you
You're dirty and sweet, oh yeah
Well you're slim and you're weak
You've got the teeth of a Hydra upon you
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl.

Get it on, bang the gong , get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

You're built like a car, you've got a hub cap diamond star Halo
You're built like a car, oh yeah
You're an untamed youth that's the truth with your cloak full of Eagles
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl.

Get it on, bang the gong , get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

You're windy and wild, you've got the blues in your shoes and your stockings
You're windy and wild, oh yeah
You're built like a car, you've got a hub cap diamond star Halo
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl.

You're dirty and sweet, clad in black, don't look back
And I love you
You're dirty and sweet, oh yeah
You dance when you walk so let's dance, take a chance, understand me
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl.

My second guess...maybe the area is well-known for it's fine thesauruses.

Michael (or Moe) is the youngest.

If I remember right...Jill would wind up watching over her little brother after school.

If I remember right...it's been one year since I left Hawaii and last saw Michael.

And one year since my Grandma made her transition to the other side.

(Kind of a tough birthday for me this year...first birthday that I didn't get a card in the mail from my Gram. I suppose it probably won't be so hard next year.)
