ALABAMA GETAWAY - GRATEFUL DEAD - GO TO HEAVEN

Thirty-two teeth in a jawbone
Alabama cryin for none
Before I have to hit him
I hope he's got the sense to run...

Reason those poor girls love him
Promise them anything
Reason they believe him
He wears a big diamond ring

Alabama getaway
Alabama getaway
Only way to please me
Turn around and leave
and walk away

Majordomo Billy Bojangles
Sit down and have a drink with me
What's this about Alabame
Keeps comin back to me?

Heard your plea in the courthouse
Jurybox began to rock and rise

Forty-nine sister states all had
Alabama in their eyes...

Alabama getaway
Alabama getaway
Only way to please me
Turn around and leave
and walk away

Why don't we just give Alabama
rope enough to hang himself?
Ain't no call to worry the jury
His kind takes care of itself

Twenty-third Psalm Majordomo
reserve me a table for 3
in the Valley of the Shadow...
just you, Alabama and me

Alabama getaway
Alabama getaway
Only way to please me
turn around and leave
and walk away

MAJORDOMO - noun
1. a man in charge of a great household, as that of a sovereign; a chief steward.
2. a steward or butler.
3. a person who makes arrangements for another.

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."

PSALM 23

------------------
Got the Wings of Heaven on my Shoes. I'm a dancin man and I just can't lose. You know it's all right. Its ok. I'll live to see another day. We can try to understand The New York Times' effect on man. Whether you're a Brother or whether you're a Mother, you're stayin' alive, stayin' alive.

THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA - CHARLIE DANIELS BAND

The devil went down to Georgia, he was looking for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind 'cos he was way behind and he was willin' to make a deal.
When he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot.
And the devil jumped upon a hickory stump and said: "Boy let me tell you what:
"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.
"And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.
"Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give the devil his due:
"I bet a fiddle of gold against your soul, 'cos I think I'm better than you."
The boy said: "My name's Johnny and it might be a sin,
"But I'll take your bet, your gonna regret, 'cos I'm the best that's ever been."

Johnny you rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard.
'Cos hells broke loose in Georgia and the devil deals the cards.
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold.
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul.

The devil opened up his case and he said: "I'll start this show."
And fire flew from his fingertips as he rosined up his bow.
And he pulled the bow across his strings and it made an evil hiss.
Then a band of demons joined in and it sounded something like this.
When the devil finished, Johnny said: "Well you're pretty good ol' son.
"But sit down in that chair, right there, and let me show you how its done."

Fire On The Mountain, run boys, run...
The devil's in the House of the Risin' Sun.
Chicken in the bread pan, pickin' out dough.
"Granny, does your doG bite?"
"No, child, no."

The devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat.
He laid that golden fiddle on the ground at Johnny's feet.
Johnny said: "Devil just come on back if you ever want to try again.
"cause I told you once, you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."

And he played Fire On The Mountain, run boys, run...
The devil's in the House of the Risin' Sun.
Chicken in the bread pan, now they're pickin' out dough.
"Granny, will your doG bite?"
"No, child, no."

Million Mile Reflections is the 10th studio album by The Charlie Daniels Band, released on April 20, 1979. It is best known for the hit single "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"...Daniels dedicated the album to Ronnie Van Zant (lead vocalist, primary lyricist, and a founding member of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd), who had died in October, 1977 in a plane crash.

Dedication to our friend
Ronnie Van Zant

A brief candle both ends burning
An endless mile a bus wheel turning
A friend to share the lonesome times
A handshake and a sip of wine
So say it loud and let it ring
That we're all part of everything
The present, future and the past
Fly on proud bird, you're free at last

(Charlie Daniels 1978)

SOUTH'S GONNA DO IT AGAIN - C.HARLIE D.ANIELS B.AND

Well, the train to Grinder's Switch is runnin' right on time
And them Tucker Boys are cookin' down in Caroline
People down in Florida can't be still
When ol' Lynyrd Skynrd's pickin' down in Jacksonville
People down in Georgia come from near and far
To hear Richard Betts pickin' on that red guitar

Chorus:
So gather 'round, gather 'round chillun'
Get down, well just get down chillun'
Get loud, well you can be loud and be proud
Well you can be proud, hear now
Be proud you're a rebel
'Cause the South's gonna do it again and again

Elvin Bishop sittin' on a bale of hay
He ain't good lookin', but he sure can play
And there's ZZ Top and you can't forget
That old brother Willie's gettin' soakin' wet
And all the GOOD PEOPLE down in Tennessee
Are diggin' barefoot Jerry and C.D.B.

Chorus

Yes, it is a glass paperweight, etched with the continents like a globe. I used it to hold open the book.

The book is like-new, it wouldn't stay open on it's own and I didn't want to crease the pages or bend the binding to take the photo.

I found the paperweight...along with a window cling of a dragonfly perched on some flowers.

"And all the GOOD PEOPLE down in Tennessee

In my posts I frequently pair songs up together in what a radio DJs sometimes call a block party, or party train. Seaming songs together is nothing new, and seems to me fairly common practice.

For example, I couldn't imagine listening to Jerry and the Grateful Dead play "Fire on the Mountain" without first having heard them play "Scarlet Begonias"...

quote:

"Fire on the Mountain" is a song by the Grateful Dead. It was commercially released on the album Shakedown Street in November 1978...prior to the Dead recording, the song premiered at a concert on March 18, 1977 in San Francisco.

The song would often be paired with "Scarlet Begonias" during live performances, producing lengthy musical excursions. The paired songs were soon nicknamed "Scarlet Fire".

The song should not be confused with the Marshall Tucker Band single of the same name.

"Scarlet Begonias" first appears on the 1974 release * From the Mars Hotel *...

SCARLET BEGONIAS - GRATEFUL DEAD

As I was walking round Grosvenor Square
Not a chill to the winter but a nip to the air
From the other direction she was calling my eye
It could be an illusion, but I might as well try
Might as well try

She had rings on her fingers and bells on her Shoes
And I knew without asking she was into the blues
She wore scarlet begonias, tucked into her curls
I knew right away she was not like other girls
Other girls

In the thick of the evening when the dealing got rough
She was too pat to open and too cool to bluff
As I picked up my MATCHES and was closing the door
* I had one of those flashes I had been there before *
Been there before

Well I ain't often right but I've never been wrong
It seldom turns out the way it does in the song
Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right

Well there ain't nothing wrong with the way she moves
Scarlet begonias or a touch of the blues
And there's nothing wrong with the love that's in her eye
I had to learn the hard way to let her pass by
Let her pass by

The wind in the willows playing Tea for Two
The sky was yellow and the sun was blue
Strangers stopping strangers just to shake their hand
Everybody is playing in the Heart of Gold band
Heart of Gold band

WHOA!..I really surprised myself with the Orange Blossom Special!... I'm so glad you all are here.

The Orange Blossom Special is a train. It travels from New York to Florida.

Hoping and trying to wander over to Paisley Park tonight...I want to Alabama Get-away and see Alabama Shakes perform. *fingers crossed*

I need to go dancing.
