It has been an Orioles tradition since 1975 to play John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" during the seventh inning stretch.

During a nationally televised game on September 20, 1997, Denver himself danced to the song atop the Orioles' dugout, one of his final public appearances before dying in a plane crash three weeks later.

Thank God, I'm a Country Boy ~ John Denver (& John Martin Sommers)

Well, life on a farm is kind-a laid back.
Ain't much an old country boy like me can't hack.
It's early to rise, early in the sack.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

Well, a simple kind-a life never did me no harm,
Raising my a family and working on a farm.
My days are all filled with an easy country charm.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

Well, I got me a fine wife, I got me an old fiddle.
When the sun's coming up, I got 'cakes on the griddle.
And life ain't nothing but a funny, funny riddle.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

When the work'd all done and the sun's setting low,
I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow,
But the kids are asleep so I keep it kind-a low.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

I'd play "Sally Goodin'" all day if I could,
But the Lord and my wife wouldn't like it very good,
So I fiddle when I can and work when I should.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

Well, I got me a fine wife, I got me an old fiddle.
When the sun's coming up, I got 'cakes on the griddle.
And life ain't nothing but a funny, funny riddle.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

Well, I wouldn't trade my life for diamonds or jewels.
I never was one of them money-grabbing fools.
I'd rather have my fiddle and my farming tools.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

Yeah, city folks driving in a black limousine,
A lot a sad people thinking that's mighty keen,
Well, folks, let me tell you now exactly what I mean:
I thank God, I'm a country boy.

Well, I got me a fine wife, I got me an old fiddle.
When the sun's coming up, I got 'cakes on the griddle.
And life ain't nothing but a funny, funny riddle.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

Well, my fiddle was my daddy's till the day he died,
And he took me by the hand and he held me close to his side.
"Live a good life, and play my fiddle with pride,
Thank God you're a country boy."

Well, my daddy taught me young how to hunt and how to whittle.
He taught me how to work and play a tune on the fiddle.
He taught me how to love and how to give just a little.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

Well, I got me a fine wife, I got me an old fiddle.
When the sun's coming up, I got 'cakes on the griddle.
And life ain't nothing but a funny, funny riddle.
Thank God, I'm a country boy.

How ironic of his song, "Leaving on a Jet Plane."

I thought it divinely ironic how--even so long after his death--John Denver can regularly get crowds of 50,000-some people to repeatedly "Thank God".

"When the sun's coming up, I got 'cakes on the griddle.
And life ain't nothing but a funny, funny riddle.
Thank God, I'm a country boy."

Pretty amazing guy, huh?

Do you remember when John Denver played an assistant manager at a grocery store in the movie "Oh, God!"...and sometimes God, played by George Burns, would talk to John Denver's character on the radio?..lol

Oh, God! (1977) Official Trailer - John Denver, George Burns Movie

I don't think he plays the songs with naughty lyrics anymore either. And when Prince is on-stage, he quite often reminds me of a preacher man...

"Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
2 get through this thing called life

Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here 2 tell u
There's something else
The afterworld

A world of never ending happiness
U can always see the sun, day or night..."

Let's GO Crazy ~ Prince

Blue-jean baby,
L.A. lady, seamstress for The Band,
Pretty-eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man.

Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand,
And now she's in me, always with me, Tiny Dancer in my hand.

Jesus freaks
Out in the streets
Handing tickets out for God;
Turning back she just laughs,
The boulevard is not that bad.

Piano man
He makes his stand
In the auditorium;
Looking on
She sings the songs,
The words she knows,
The tune she hums

Tiny Dancer ~ Elton John
------------------------------------------------------------------

"Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes,
A 4 of Fish and FINGER pies..."

"And now she's in me, always with me, Tiny Dancer in my HAND.
Jesus freaks
Out in the streets
HANDING tickets out for God..."
