I have noticed lot of times when I am in sleep in night my body gets shaked like it got electric shock like thing. Then sometimes I feel that I get it twice one after some time of sleep and one early morning. Then I get lot of dreams. Does it mean I am having some out of body experiences? If yes, then how can I explore it more? Is it astral visit something?

That's weird - the same thing has happened to me for years. It's almost like I get literally shaken out of sleep for no reason. It's like the falling sensation without the falling perception.

It sounds like a condition called "vertigo", typically created by an inner ear imbalance. Vertigo happens to me every now and again, especially when I'm laying down and in some sort of sleep mode. For some people, it's very constant and not just while lying down. It can be a very debilitating and nauseating condition. Unfortunately, those who have it chronically, have no way to cure it. There is medication available to alleviate the symptoms, but often the medication has its own nest of side effects.

That's interesting!! So it is a vertigo and not an out of body experience.

Wasn't that a Hitchcock film also?

In Psychology 101, I heard that this is a physiological reaction called a myoclonus, literally "muscle seizure", that takes place when your body is making the transition from the tension of the day to the total-body relaxation that typically accompanies sleep. One's muscles are literally shaking off their tension. I'm not sure what would account for one in the morning though.

Louise L. Hay, an author who discusses the use of the mind, has written a list of the emotional reasons behind several diseases. She also gives affirmations one can say to release the need for a certain emotion.
Does Vertigo have an emotional reason? Could there be a more common name for Vertigo?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
even i feel that there is something that divine wants me to do. What I don't know? But I think when I will be ready for it, It will come automatically.

I found Vertigo listed under dizziness.
Hay says the probable cause is
"Flighty, scattered thinking. A refusal to look." She advises the new thought "I am deeply centered and peaceful in life. It is safe for me to be alive and joyous." Perhaps if one has this condition, the affirmation could help if one were to say it several times a day.

sVirgo, do you think you could describe the sensations in more detail? Because it's so broad to me that it sounds like it could be any of vertigo, myoclonus, or an out of body experience.

I know I have occasionally "slammed" awake at times, and believe that this is indeed a crash landing back into my body. But it's not experienced as electrical by me; feels more like some kind of Wile E. Coyote "wham!" drop from a cliff, in an ACME box. It's very different for me than vertigo, or the "bedspins" I got back in my partying days.

Out of body experiences happen quite frequently in sleep, but people are seldom conscious of those journeys-- we can't remember. One good way of exploring the dream and astral world is via journalling or attempting lucid dreaming. Both help train the mind and person to become more aware while unconscious.

I find the Psych explanation particularly intriguing because we are electrical beings, especially when it comes to brain activity, so certainly I see the "wham!" effect as a transition of some kind. I'd love to know more!

This sort of thing has happened to me and just the other day I was "slammed" awake scared (for some unknown reason)and trembling and my heart was beating fast like I had just been running out of fear or fighting or something and I felt that either I was caught halfway in and out of my body or someone was trying to get into my body and was caught halfway in and halfway out of my body. I'm pretty sure that I was having a regular non-scary dream. If I was travelling astrally, why would I rush back to my body like that? I don't know what is going on sometimes.

Hi,
I only feel this thing when I sleep calmly and can remember my dreams too. For a moment my body jumps/shakes off the bed that I am nothing then I get Ok. My body jumps from bed because the whole body was shaking. I am sorry I think I can not describer very well. In that time I know that shake is so strong and I think if anybody sleeps with me on bed can easily feel what is happening.
It just started from few months only.

Well, as with anything physical, it's a good idea to get symptoms checked out by a doctor in case the neurological system is involved, or something else like a sleep disorder, or just plain insomnia.

My background includes sitting in spiritualist mediumship circles, where out of body experiences were common, and where we discussed the various phenomena. I learned that a person who is out of their body can: 1. shake (a sign of being in trance), and 2. if asleep, and becomes conscious while still out of the body, may snap or be reeled suddenly back into their body. The latter often happens when first trying to get to sleep, or at light sleep phases, when the likelihood of waking up physically is greater than when in a deep sleep.

But there's no harm done, ever, by this happening. Just a bit uncomfortable to slam awake like that! If I can manage the presence of mind at times like that, I can relax more quickly and snuggle back o sleep, kNOWing that I will likely be spiralling way up and out again soon! And with that awareness, I may ask spirit guides or angels for a certain experience or guidance on the astral plane. It's really individual, I think.

Sweet sleep!

hey, all

sVirgo, I'm familiar with something similar to what you spoke of, and here's a thought...

Perhaps during the 'coma' of sleep, (or in that hazy phase just before sleep) the shaking is our body's way of releasing energy held back (or repressed) by our minds throughout the course of the day; for example, clenched jaws, tense shoulders, stiff knees...

And further, the area of the body doing the shake 'n shimmy could tell you something... On a personal note, when I'm feeling particularly vulnerable and frightened about moving forward into my life, my right leg twitches!
