Hi,I hope y'all don't mind, but I thought this would be the appropriate forum to recommend one of my favorite books. It is by Tom Robbins and it is called " Jitterbug Perfume". This forum talks about alot of similar issues that the book deals with such as: immortality, scents, sychronicity. I met this man about 10years ago who claimed to be a shaman ( who knows) but he had told me to read this book and called it "a spiritual allegory" which it did turn out to be. Anyway if anyone has read it or does read it I would be interested to hear their thoughts on the book. : ) IP: Logged |

Haven't read it yet.------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |

Is it really about physical immortality?------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |

All of Tom Robbins' books are pretty damn cool. They're fiction, Randall, but with esoteric/metaphysical themes or overtones. IP: Logged |

i love tom robbins too. and especially this book. actually, i think there's a more recent one than fierce invalids...villa incognito. i've read it. i own it. i'm ready to pass it on if you're interested. but actually, shipping from japan would probably cost just as much as buying yourself a copy... love, shannonIP: Logged |

Thx, Venus! I am a huge Tom Robbins fan. He has that whimsical, seeming stream of consciousness and mystic insight that few writers have. I'm going to order the book from my library right now.------------------ Always Seeking...poetsdream7 IP: Logged |

Are all his books metaphysical?------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. Anyone care for Gary Zukav? I read The Seat of the Soul, loved it so I bought Heart of the Soul. It was so truthful, I am still bawling! If you have any reservations about your spirituality, don't read it! If you think you are spiritualality is in tact, don't read it. (He's on the money and not wishy washy, I think I'll need another thirteen years of therapy to work through the things he points out.)IP: Logged |

oooooo Jitterbug Perfume is my faaavorite Tom Robbins book.. though it's very nearly a tie with Still Life with Woodpecker coming in a close second. (I love his theory of the origin of redheads! )All of T.R.'s books have abit of metaphysics sprinkled throughout. I can't recommend his stuff enough! IP: Logged |

Wholeheartedly agree! He has a flair for parlaying metaphysics, philosophies and humour into intricately woven and fun stories. I love that man! I'd love to pick his brain. IP: Logged |
