There is the intellect, and there is the ego and personality which it wraps around itself. These are the emperor's new clothes which do not exist except in the mind of their wearer and any unfortunate enough to be taken in by the ruse. The emperor wears his "clothes" with pride, for he believes they are real, having seen the reactions of those around him. What he fails to realize is that it isn't the "clothes" that people react to, but his "new clothes" way of behaving. In the beginning, some try to point out to him the fantasy nature of his apparel, ("You're not acting like yourself lately..."), but he deems these to be ignorant and tries to distance himself from them. His preference is to surround himself with those who tell him what he wants to hear...that he is not still naked, immersed in his childhood innocence. Still, the children know and speak the truth, for they don't know fear yet, and haven't learned to lie to themselves. Perhaps the greatest tragedy of all is that although the clothes are woven of societal pressure and parental conditioning, it is still the emperor who chooses to don them each day. But without a self identity we woulld be only soul energy..... No thoughts...just energy. The danger comes in one(the emperor)puts on even more costumes and soon presents to the world something other than who he truly is. And worse...he soon no longer knows himself; deluding even himself by the illusion of the grand show he puts on.IP: Logged |

I think you're right, Fayte - an ego and a self-identity are probably good things to have, eh? Maybe the problem, if there is one, is that we've let our ego take the reins and assume that it *is* the self, when instead it should be relegated to more of a supporting role? What do you think? Know thyself... Be true to thyself... Be honest with thyself... Then ego will not overtake one into self delusion.... PS.We are only the same as in pure energy...from there is an entirely different matter! That is like saying we are exactly like a tree because we are both comprised of atoms etcetera. That is true but ridiculously simplistic and innacurate when it comes to describing us as the unique individuals we each are, by way of Ego/Id/Awareness of Being. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ~I intend to continue learning, forever~"Fayte" ~I am still learning~ Michangelo The Door to Gnosis is never permanently locked...one only needs the correct keys and passwords. ------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |
