What was the immortal message?

------------------
"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll

*disclaimer -- spoiler

the book and the movie revolve around a magical merry-go-round. those who ride this merry-go-round have the desire to change their ages, either backward or forward.

the creatures on the merry-go-round are magical creatures -- a winged lion, mermaid, merman, unicorn, and seahorse. the characters who choose aging forward must choose a water creature to ride, and the merry-go-round spins forward, in the direction the creatures are facing. reversing age, the characters ride the winged lion, or the unicorn, and the merry-go-round spins in the opposite direction.

it's very clearly a reference to cell regeneration, and the spinning visualization LG teaches. she also discussed many immortals who choose an advanced physical age, in order to serve their purposes. i suppose that's an awesome thing about immortality -- one can choose any age or any appearance at any time...once he/she learns to master the physical body.

the children in the movie are obviously much more advanced in the ways of love and life than most of the adults. the little boy, who always gives his age as six and a quarter, seems to have more wisdom than anyone. it's also the message that LG gives to spend as much time with children as possible, as they seem to remember the wisdom of the universe more than adults.

i think it also has a message about walk-ins...there are few moments that seem to suggest this.

at the beginning of the movie, a small statue on the desk of one of the decent adults is a winged lion, much like the one on the merry-go-round. for some reason i was reminded of 'The Lion Path' and Musaios' poem 'On the Wings of Mirahi' (think that's the name of it.)

anyway...discerning these things in the movie was so exciting...i thought it would be cool if others had seen this movie, or would watch it, and discover the same things. fun to discuss.

the book was written by a German author, Cornelia Funke. i'll find the book and read it soon. the venetian scenery in the movie was astounding. we keep the movie on in the background of our house, just because it's so artistically done, with beautiful music....it seems there are always new discoveries to uncover in it...i think it touches on the idea of secret societies as well.

very well done and intriguing.

the doors are many
but the key is one
and end lies there
where naught is done:
that space has room
for a winged and wondrous child
(like the magic womb beguiled
a spark to substance
with her rounding word,
and whirled a little word to being
by insistent life untombed the void's reality).

that child alone
shall fly the abyss
and seek the Double Flower
and reach the Second Sun.
Myrahi is his name
whom those may claim companion
who have done the same:
Companions of Myrahi.

Kyril Demys (Musaios)
from Wings of Myrahi
re-printed in Gooberz

it's interesting that in the movie, it's a mysterious older man who is attempting to reconstruct this merry-go-ground, as he knows of its magic. he is missing the final piece of the merry-go-round; it is a wing of the lion. so the man commissions the children to find this wing for him. it is only the little boy, who knows it's a lion's wing -- everyone else assumes it's an angel's wing.

of course the children don't know the reason the man seeks this wing, he is highly secretive. an even more interesting development is that in trying to discover the origin and significance of the wing that is of such importance to this man, the children are led to a catholic orphanage. the orphanage had possession of this merry-go-round at one time, given them by a mysterious wealthy man, but for some reason they dispensed with it, and in so doing the pieces were broken and scattered. it is a nun who saved the broken wing, and gave it to the appropriate person, a child.

i think that this is a metaphor for the church being in possession of metaphysical/alchemical secrets that LG references in Gooberz. a secret that someone commisioned the church with safe-keeping. but perhaps in keeping these secrets hidden, they were lost to the church as well, so that only a fragment remained (i.e. the lion's wing -- significant that it's the lion, as in The Lion Path). and interesting that it remained with an orphanage -- a child's place. truly, it is children who have these secrets in their hearts. it is as JC taught -- be ye as a little child, and ye shall enter the kingdom of heaven -- or something to that effect.

from the Prologue in Gooberz

all children's hearts contain the Serpent Wisdom of coiled secrets

never dreamed of nor suspected
by those who do believe the wells of childish minds are shallow
and thus careless, then may overlook some ancient mystery
lying silent, fallow

sleeping there unseen, invisible...beyond the ken of all those unaware
that children meditate and dwell on things O! never told
when their thoughts are brushed with fleeting gold
by passing angels, rustling silken wings, and murmuring low
above thsese softer forms of clay
too recently exiled from Heaven to pass judgement..and so
who harken with still open souls
as yet not sealed by the ponderous gravity of Earth experience

only later, after trials of torment and temptation
are the doors to Truth slammed shut, and firmly locked
by the flesh inheritance of fixed opinion, engraved while in the womb
then do such shining spirits become the self-imprisoned, final minions
of the Body Temple's narrow, echoing tomb
crumbled from a promised alabaster..into a common dust

yes, children..all

contain fragmented prisms of these bright and shimmering secrets
which magic they keep hidden, even from themselves
and buried deep within the heart, till slowly, they become a part
of subconscious memory's haunted whipsers, waiting latent
to be rediscovered

secrets spun...

in the movie the Mists of Avalon it is the christian nuns who keep the memory of the goddess alive in the veneration of Mary the mother of Jesus. even as the old ways of magic are passing into the shrouds of the mists of avalon, they keep her memory alive.

so it is interesting that it is a nun in the Thief Lord who preserves the remaining piece of the magic merry-go-round, unknown to anyone else. she gives the wing to an orphan girl who leaves the orphanage, though she doesn't explain her reasons for doing so.

this girl grows up and keeps the wing. she is one of the key adults in the Thief Lord who has not lost her sense of the magic of childhood. she is also an artist. she is sensitive to the plight of children at the hands of cruel adults, and understands and embraces their need and love of adventure. the children recognize this in her as well. she has not lost her sense of joy and childhood perspective in her adult life. for this reason, perhaps, the nun placed the lion's wing in her safekeeping.

this illustrates another aspect of the secret of immortality i believe. it is not just the physical act of cell reversal, or medical breakthroughs or any of these things...it is the alchemy of our thoughts, our attitudes, and perspective on life and love that is the key to what the nazarene taught is "the kingdom of heaven."

it is the adults who have misused the carousel in the movie. it seems that they still do not understand the true meaning of its purpose, so -- finally it is destroyed in the end. as though they have part of the knowledge, but not the final key...

though the children, and the enlightened adults, especially the woman, seem not to mind the destruction of the carousel, as they possess these secrets and this magic in their hearts to begin with.

the carousel is just a tool, as are exercises in cell reversal, and devices, such as alex chiu's magnetic rings, and others, that assist those on the path of discovering the truth of eternity.

the esoteric secret and alchemy, the real gold, lies on our hearts and thoughts, our understanding as children and the Easter secret that Linda explores so lovingly in Gooberz.

it was linda goodman's attempt to combine all these separate parts of this alchemy....

she gave us poetry and hints and clues and explanations....she gave us tools and suggestions and some ways of changing our perspecitves and looking deep within our hearts.

with loving kindness, she gave us understanding and direction on this path...

and invaluable insight into thoughts and ideas such as The Lion Path, Rudolph Steiner, astrology, numerology, lexigramming, cell reversal, the teaching of the nazarene....and on and on....

she gave us so many of the keys, esoteric and mundane...that is her gift to humanity and the preservation of this planet, our Eden Heaven.

how cool it is to see these same ideas in other artforms....films and books....art and artists who continue the gift of opening our hearts and minds.

i've acquired the book The Thief Lord ...looking forward to its treasures...

and i do know that LG's guidance will take us forward on our paths and in our own discoveries of Twelfth Night Secrets.

it is the nazarene jesus, who as a child teaches the rabbis in the temple.

and i am reminded of the passage in the bible ~

and the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

seems as if there's a relation between this and the title Thief Lord.

the little boy's name is Boniface...i would imagine as a reference to the catholic pope Boniface. at the end of the movie he pushes two of the cruel adults into the water in the canals of venice. at first i thought that was kind of a cruel thing to have him do...but later it occurred to me that this may be symbolic of a baptism...the adults are shocked, but they are immersed in water, a la JC and John the Baptist. as though immersed in spirit...by the actions of a child.

and it's interesting as well, when the carousel is destroyed, it bursts into flames....and this occurs when one of the unenlightened adults rides the carousel and reverts to a young child. this may be a reference to baptism in fire, and i think the two are necessary -- the water and the fire, else without the water, we simply are consumed in flame. Jesus, and his message, i imagine, represents the emotional component of water and love, that is necessary for this transformation.

and finally, the older boy's name is Prosper...i think this may point to what we are promised -- a life abundant, in joy and love, when we discover and hold these secrets in our hearts. perhaps as we 'grow' into this spirit...as he is the older of the two brothers....while the younger Boniface, experiences the magic more, Prosper, the older one, and the more thoughtful child in the group, takes on the responsibility and care for his brother. just as we, as we grow in knowledge and 'prosperity,' take on the responsibility for others of our brothers and sisters.

hmmmm...what a spiral...or 'spin'....this carousel has engendered....

there are a lot of pope bonifaces...so not quite sure of what the reference night be about...

except that boniface ii was german and perhaps as the author is german, this might have significance.

then there is boniface V who, according to wikipedia ~

did much for the Christianising of England and enacted the decree by which churches became places of refuge for criminals.

interesting to note that the 2 brothers, Boniface and Prosper are from England, as are their aunt and uncle, who are inflicting their cruelty upon the boys.

the boys run away to venice (which is in italy -- close to rome) and there they they find refuge and comfort with the thief lord, who is known as a criminal.

they escape to venice, italy because their late mother wished to relocate with them there, as she told them it was a place of magic, and told Boniface about the magical creatures on the merry-go-round. and venice is where the boys find the enlightened lady/artist who ends up as their caretaker.

she herself was an orphan, at the christian orphanage and she is in possession of the broken lion's wing. and for some reason she has taken dozens of pictures of boniface in the market square in venice. when she first meets Prosper and says something to him of great significance, he responds, with great surprise, that it is the exact thing that his late mother would tell him. in the film, there is a look of recognition and shock between the two of them. all these are clues i believe, that point to the woman being the vehicle of a walk-in for the boys' mother.

such fun...this movie....

it appears, i think, that this is a parallel between the boys' mother and mary the mother of the nazarene.

it is as if mary the mother of jesus, the representative of the goddess, of an older pagan knowledge, gives birth to, and passes on, to her son, jesus, her magic knowledge to spread forth as his message to the world.

in the film, the boys' mother dies...in the sense perhaps, that this path of the old faith has died, in the wake of christianity....however, the boys retain the secrets of their mother, esp the younger one, Boniface. and it is an orphan of the catholic church, who possesses the fragment of knowledge, of the magic, the lion's wing, who becomes their surrogate mother...but also there is a man...the detective, who at first is retained to capture the boys, who turns into their champion and rescues them.

a closeness between this man and the woman is apparent throughout the movie. it is he who has a complete replica of the winged lion on his desk in the beginning of the film. in the end the two of them together take responsibility for the boys and the other girl orphan. so it would seem that they might be seen as representive of the combination/balance of the female/masculine energies -- and love -- which are necessary for the alchemy inherent in the film's message.

linda goodman mentioned often the time that would come when the lion would lie down with the lamb. applies here, i think.

also she talked much about the catholic church, and the secrets it holds. some of them astrological.

interesting, these connections.

as quoted in Star Signs ~
