If you are a vegetarian, not a vegan, you can get your B12 from dairy and eggs.

Yep, dairy and eggs.
Although, in my experience, vegetarians are EITHER iron-deficient OR B12-deficient.
I get plenty of dairy and other by-products, but my B12 is never optimal. I don't make any effort to get iron, because I've never been iron deficient (and I have a blood test every year to check).
My mother is the opposite - she's severely iron deficient, but no problems getting enough B12!
Not sure how this works, I guess it's our individual make-up that determines which nutrient our body has trouble absorbing/integrating into it's system...

It seems there is a clear choice between optimum health and a totally clear conscience. Almost a doctrine of original sin - to be human is to be tainted with guilt. But then, immortality does not necessarily mean being optimally healthy. You could be immortal and anemic for ever and ever?

Hmmm...

I think if you're a bloke, you'll be right.
If you're a woman, it's harder.
All my friends are meat-eaters, and some of them are still anaemic anyway. I don't believe that being vegetarian is the cause for any type of anaemia, it depends on how you're body uses the nutrients it's given. If you're a woman, you could be eating meat and taking iron supplements and still lose it all every month!
As a unique individual, you have to listen to your body and give it what it needs, not what the government/medical experts say it needs! EveryBODY is different.

Now, that's a scary thought!

I'm not trying to sell a particular brand but my anti-aging doc recommends a multi called Basic Nutrients V w/Copper by Thorne Research. Six cap. = 7500% DV B12
It's a bit pricey but for someone like me with absorption issues it's worth it.
(this is without iron & iodine though)

Thank you. I have been reading up on this and it seems that we lose something called intrinsic factor as we age, which makes older people unable to absorb B vitamins. Do immortalists take these lesser known aspects of aging in their stride?

I feel sure that fermented foods, being partly digested, would help in the absence of intrinsic factor

I am not a vegetarian, I just don't eat much meat. I feel that eating a little meat is probably the most natural and effective way of getting the benefits of meat that our bodies appear to need. My primary concern is animal welfare and I feel that animals are no better off if we are total vegetarians than if we just don't eat much meat, because if everybody did that, the meat industry would collapse anyway.

Hi-Yin.-I-comment-on-your-suggestion-to-eat-eggs-by-mentioning-that,-according-to-Linda,-eggs-are-just-as-meat-as-meat-is.They-are-unfertilized-ovums.Linda-also-claims-that-B12-is- unnecessary.

You can also take vitamin B injections.

I get them from the doctors office. Not sure what this costs if your insurance won't cover it, but for someone like me who is extremely vitamin deficient and anemic, it's the only way I can absorb enough.

I can't take enough pills to get what my body needs. I'de be swallowing, and probably vomitting all day.
