The gods are the true immortals, and the astrological planets are also ancient gods. I was just thinking: if I wear gems and colours and choose numbers, to attract the benefits of a planet like Jupiter,how is that different from praying to the god, Jupiter?------------------

I would not want to pray to a god I did not know I was praying to. But maybe I am just being a hypocrite: why don't I just cut out the middle man and invoke Jupiter or Mars directly,offer a sacrifice or two, build a temple etc.------------------

 ok ok... all kidding aside... is it possible that you're overthinking things just a wee bit? prayer, at least as i have always interpreted it, is a purposeful act of connecting to a higher energy (as emeraldopal pointed out)... be it to ask for intercedence etc etc it's still direct commune with a specific goal in mind...
wearing colours etc associated with a specific energy is more akin to being the beneficiary of someone's goodwill toward you... you're simply tapping into the positive energy by using a symbol to assist you... ------------------

I find your arguments too sophisticated, emitres.I have decided to look at it simply as if one were asking a person for something that God has put them in charge of. You pray to God for money, but you ask the bank manager for a loan. You pray to God for victory, but you ask the god Mars for victorious influences.------------------

i think that may very well be the first time anyone has called my arguments too sophisticated... fundamentally you and i are saying the same thing, just in a different way... Randall - i wonder if the majority are monotheistic simply because it's easier?  ------------------
