The people I think of as true immortals are people who probably never gave a thought to immortality.
They are those who tried to pioneer new ways of living. People like Robert Owen who tried to make a utopia in England and the numerous visionaries who travelled to America in the early days to create revolutionary new communities and lifestyles. Their work is pretty much destroyed now, but what could they have achieved if they had had an extra lifetime or two?------------------

Most people who post here seem to want to carry on the deathist lifestyle, but somehow manage to live forever. People like the Shakers were the opposite. They did not expect to live forever, but they pioneered new ways of living.------------------

Like the Quakers, but more radical. They did not believe in marriage and sexual intercourse and controlled their sexual urges by shaking dances, hence the name.------------------

There were many groups beside the Shakers and they all encountered opposition to the point where they are now eliminated or unrecognisable. Even Christianity could be described like this. That is why I lose patience with people who think survival is just a matter of positive thinking.------------------

in regards to the Shakers - it wasn't necessarily due to opposition from outside forces that led to their "elimination"... the group tended to have a rather high turnover rate through-out their history but keep in mind that they were still Christian... ------------------
