What kind of music do you like?
I'm a violist,so my main field of experience is in Classical/orchestral music.I think Beethoven's symphonies Nos. 3,4,5,6, 7 are really nice, but his 8th and 9th are ugly.I like Schubert, and Bizet's Carmen Suite is cool.I haven't had too much experience with Ives or Brahms, but I like what I've heard.Mozart's Requiem is very good,Dies Irae in particular.I also really like Britten's Simple Symphony and Introduction and Allegro for Strings by Elgar. And the Pier Gynt Suite is neat(I'm running out of adjectives!!)
I can see your eyes glaze over as you read that.I'm not very into Pop or Rock, but now and then I find a good song.I like Chopsui by System of the Downs and Graduation by VitaminC(they played that song at my 8th grade graduation dance.I still want to cry whenever I hear it)
And I can tolerate almost anything else.
I haven't heard very much Eminem, but his raps seem interesting, and some have power. He's also kinda funny.Sometimes.In a crude way.
There is a CD called the Kronos Quartet :Music of Africa. It is a string quartet playing African music, with traditional African instruments too.Very lively.
My absolut favorite singer of all time is Dolores Keane
Her music is soo beatiful! Some of her songs make me want to cry,to.She performed A Lion In A Cage at Nelson Mandella's release party(you can download it at her website)and has won a lot of acclaim and awards. Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs:

I've been to long away from your loving
Too long with my back to the wall
I've been to some far away places
With nothing to show for it all

I've been too long away from this country
Too long not heeding your call
Now i'm home,like some war-weary sodier
With nothing to show for it all

I've been to their sites and showcases
I've been through their strong city-halls
Men with black suites and no faces
And nothing to show for it all

Ive been too long away from this country
Too long not heeding your call
Now I'm home, like some war -weary soldier
With nothing to show for it all

I've taken the jibe and the gesture
I've laughed at the joke through it all
He said get back to the place where you came from
You've got nothing to give after all

Ive been too long away from this country
Too long no heeding you call
Now I'm home.like some war weary soldier
With nothing to show after all (times 2 )

Breath easy,there's someone there waiting
Someone who cares after all...

*Makes curtsey* Hello your Majesty of Sheeba....nice to meet you...

I love most kinds of music, classical being a favorite ...love, Daphne et Chloe, La Mer, most stuff by Mozart...and Debussy....the very stirring Ride of the Valykries....Oh, I could go on and on.....

But....I also love blue grass, jazz, and blues.....(polkas too)

My favorite singer is Hal Ketchum country singer...*sigh*...and I think KD Lang has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard....

Luv,
Rainbow~

There have been a few exceptions, but I'm very openminded and tolerant of most music. I love rock and pop just as much as classical. Queen of Sheba, have you heard Franz Schubert's arrangement of Psalm 23? If not, I strongly urge you to listen to it; if you can find a recording or go to a live concert where a high quality choir sings it, it is extremely divine.

There's so much music out there ,no one could ever run out of stuff to discover
Rainbow --I admire Mozart for his structure, but classical-period music lacks an emotional content I want. That's why his Requiem is so great---EMOTIONAL MOZART!!!!!!!! I go for Romantic composers more.
I have no experience with jazz or blues. Can you recommend anyone??
Spiritua--Isn't it great when people are musically open minded? So many people aren't.I have friends who refuse to listen to anything but "their music".They're missing a lot.A true horror story n a tour bus with all those friends I mentioned,I put my oh-so-special Dolores Keane music on the sound system.Groans filled the bus and they took it off.....
A question:do the Beatles count as Rock or Pop or what?

HI Queen
Early Beatles I would class as pop, but later they became more of a rock band.

I heard Beethovens Battle Symphony the other day and loved it, also like Night On A Bare Mountain by Rimmsky Korsakov, the flute at the outro is beautiful...I'm listening to the 2nd cd of Wings Hits and History and it's playing Everynight...I first heard this about 6 mths ago when I bought Rhythm and Black Vol 2 and the artist that performed it was Phobe Snow and now I know it was written by Paul McCartney back in 1970.

I like Tchaikovsky and love Cappricio Italien as well as his ballet suites.

Cheers Dean

mambo-I've never heard Beethoven's Battle Symphony, but I've read that it sounds odd to the modern ear.True or false? On Tchaikovsky,I'm playing his Capriccio Espagnole(or whatever the name is)next year!!!I need to start practicing.......

Queen
I was listening to a public radio station that mainly plays classical, but also reviews jazz, contemporary.
I wouldn't say it sounds odd. I liked how there was the sound of musket fire, swords clashing and the odd cannon...would like to know how this was achieved...real or on instruments.

Good luck with Capriccio

I like some Mozart, but some of it is too aggressive for me. Piano concerto #21 is my fave of his. My very favorite music is Sarah Brightman, Michael Crawford, and Enya. Their music really moves me. I also like 2002, but most people have never heard of them.

Mambo--muskets and cannons in a symphony?
That's even better than fireworks in an overture!
Morning Storm-I love Enya's music!I think she should've gotten an Oscar for "May It Be" from the the Fellowship of the Ring(I also liked that movie's soundtrack).

I hope you like it, Randall;I did!!!
Moulin Rouge really isn't a movie for little kids, but my four-year-old sister still managed to see most of it with my dad and I.It was his fault, not mine .She started crying uncontrollably;she didn't seem scared, but instead, very sad.It was like she was relating to the movie much more strongly
than most people would .
And now I want to learn to tango....

So, the movie is about the tango?

No,but there is a Tango scene that is dramaticly gripping, or more eloquently: Minus a little exaggeration,of course. There are some other dance scenes too,but nothing still danced today(I think).
Just see it!!!

Moulin Rouge is awesome! I let Aneasha watch it because she has music in her Soul, and she loves it!

I'll see if I can find something about 2002 and post the link. It's beautiful music.

I like all kinds of music! It depends on my mood. My favorites would have to be

Yankee Doodle went to town riding on a pony!

Just kidding! That just popped into my head!

I like Phantom of the Opera, oldies, pop, punk rock, and that stuff my Daddy listens to. Just no rap please!

I've never seen Phantom of the Opera, but I've heard some of it;I usually don't go in for warbly music like that ,but PotO is an exception.See you in Teen Spirit,Little Tiger!

Queen of Sheeba, I've noticed that no one answered your question about jazz and blues, so I will be the first.

I highly recommend Oscar Peterson.

I like a little of everything - Texas, Abba, LeAnn Womack, Celine Dion, No Doubt, Ronan Keating (mostly coz he's yummy to look at )...... and I just love The Phantom of the Opera! I really like Enya too now that you mention it.
I've never listened to classical music and I don't really like Jazz. I can't listen to too much of the same singer at a time - it bores me - unless it's Celine Dion - that lady has the most UNbelievable voice I've ever heard!
