Hey ya'll - I was flipping through some pics on Google, when I ran across one of the Blue Ridge Mountains and I felt a mini-dose of that warm wave of tranquility and content that I get when I drive out there. So that got me wonderin' - where do ya'll feel most at peace? Is there a special place that you've reserved for yourself nearby, or do you have to do some travelling? Or can you get there just using your mind's eye? Is there a particular setting that helps you find your center, or do you simply have to close your eyes to reach it? Just wondering along. I feel most at peace when I am about to go to bed. I will have just come out of the shower, put lotion on myself and aloe vera on my face and feel all nice and pampered and ready for bed. Then I turn my fan on for white noise, sit on my Mexican blanket, sip herbal tea or kava kava tea and read a little before turning out the lights and going to sleep. And that is my peaceful private moments that I feel at alot of peace.Another peaceful feeling for me is on full moons when it's windy at night. oh- sorry- one more is at my grandma's house- life just seems so simple and nice there.. ------------------ Food is the only art that nourishes! Corri!! You posted a picture of my mountains!! I live in Roanoke!! We are SURROUNDED by JUST THAT PHOTO!! Well, not that exact photo I don't guess, but yes, by the BRMs!! Flying over them..is the most awesome sight I've ever been fortunate enough to see...awesome...but, to answer your question...most peace...actually...in my mind..during 2 times..one is during prayer..and the other is in memories of my beloved grandmother. Everything about her memories to me is peace..I think of her every single day, several times a day..I miss her. IP: Logged |

Bernadette, wow you live in Roanoke!!!!! My family is from Lynchburg, Roanoke, Salem and Vinton!!!!!!!! My mom's best friend lives up Vinton!!!!!!! Cool! Oh aren't those mountains just breathtaking??!!!!! I say "my mountains" too when I see the ones in NC, or when I see Peaks of Otter! NOW those I feel a deep affinity with! Maybe it's because my mom climbed them when she was pregnant with me. Maybe... oh and how they re-mind me of the pyramids at Giza from a distance! Especially from Lynchburg's view!Corri... I would say the mountains are my place of physical tranquilty at times... I breathe better in higher elevations; I think maybe this helps calm me. eternal IP: Logged |

Bern & eternal - Cool! I'm glad my post could do some good theFajita - That's awesome that you have such readily accessible havens And did you get a little rush of peace just thinking about those places and activities? (That was the real point of this post; I was hoping that someone'd read it, think about it, and then feel better in the middle of a hectic day.) Freedom - How long've you been flying? That must be...wow. Yep, it must be very Wow. eternal & Bern (again) - Ah ha. "Bern again"...I just noticed that ...moving on... Yup, the Blue Ridge Mtns. hold a special, huge piece of my heart. I've been meaning to poke around and trace my roots for a while; maybe I should get on it. (Much of my Mom's fam having been oooollld blood in the mountains and valleys, futher up north than ya'll, though. Still, do any of ya'll know of an area called "Crow's Nest" up in Western VA or WVA? That's where I understand some of 'em to be out of. Maybe finding that, I can find someone er two that'll know the herbal medical knowledge that passed away in my family w/ my Great Grandma, or the dowsing techniques of my Great Grandaddy.) But now I've started writing for the sake of doing so; I run at the keyboard sometimes. Hope everyone out there's having a fantastic day! Corri IP: Logged |

Corri, I don't think I've ever heard of Crow's Nest before but, it's worth looking into for sure!------------------ When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. Sunny Day - Oh, wow, have I been to DC. And history. Oi, history. I grew-up just north of Fredericksburg (the mid-way point between DC and Richmond - guess where the Yanks held-up...). Every, every, everyeveryevery fieldtrip that I went on as a child was to a) The National Museum of Natural History or the National Air and Space Museum - I can walk those 2 blindfolded (or to the Art Museums or Archives once in a while) b) Some President's Birthplace or Boyhood Home or Place that he Designed (see: Monticello, UVA, etc)...or, of course, to some Confederate General's Birthplace or Boyhood Home (read: Robert E. Lee - in some parts of VA he's considered a saint. No, really.) c) A Battlefield - Revolutionary or Civil, didn't matter; in some towns you could get both in one fell swoop - heck, where I spent the first few years of my life (Occoquan, an old little port town), you could walk through fields (that is, before they were subdivided and developed - GRRRRRRR) and find arrowheads or bullets and buckles, depending on how deep you went. d) Williamsburg, Jamestown, etc - the "birthplaces of America"Further up North (I was living in Alexandria - w/i the Beltway), one has to dodge diplomats (they drive like they're stoned - half of them are) and the odd procession. But, hey, when I was working at a Borders I rang-up Dick Cheney, the odd Senator or two, and Patch Adams - a regular there and an odd, odd man...but cool. Uh, I dunno know where I was going with that, but I guess that I went there and then came back. theFajita - Cool, it's a date. I'm usu. up then, too. It's getting pert dern cold up here now, though, so I think I'll imbibe Spiced Apple Cider. Apple Cider. Mmmmmmmmm. Corri IP: Logged |

Where does a nature spirit feel at peace? Lying on a log in the middle of a rippling stream, looking up through the trees at the fluffy white clouds morphing into many different images, against the beautiful blue sky, as the sun's rays filter down through the trees to catch on the water every now and then. That is when I am most at peace.. Nature Spirit IP: Logged |

proxieme- my dad and I are big battlefield tourists, we're always running around to see re-enactments or historical sites or the place where general X beat general Y. Yeah, the Washington area is packed with history- if you visit Mannassas, you get two battles at once, both from the same war. Another neat thing about the East Coast in general is that everything's so close together. History all over the place. ------------------ "The only devils in this world are those running around in our own hearts. That is where the battle should be fought"-Gandhi IP: Logged |

I feel at peace at a local city park near the dam. It is one of our natural areas in the city and I always feel at home with God there. The scenery is just breathtaking and awesome.ID IP: Logged |

proxieme, oh my am I envious of your location. Wow! Fredericksburg, Arlington, and so close to all those battlefields...a dream of mine to go and see all of them. I do the re-enactment thing; playing a Yankee. For some reason I feel a special interest in going to Antietam National Battlefield. I know quite a bit about all those battles, and I want to walk in the footsteps of those who served before me. (There was nothing more deadly than being in the army during the 1860's.) My Pappy showed me some pictures of my great-great uncle, who was a veteran of the Civil War. Stereotypical looking! Long goatee, pocketwatch, wide-brimmed hat, and thin looking, with that kinda lost, sad look in his eyes. I can only imagine the terrible things he saw happen. But Virginia would be my destination. Or anywhere the ocean is. I've never touched salt-water in my life!IP: Logged |

Just got back from the beach. The whole world could be falling down around me, and at at times it is, but.... At the beach, nothing bothers me. Sitting in the surf, with my toes in the sand, the warm water washing over me, the wind blowing through me, the sun and later the moon shining down on me... I have never experienced tranquility as I do at the beach. IP: Logged |

I always feel better when I go north. I take day trips driving up the Mississippi River and I always feel more at home north. I go to state parks everywhere in about a 3 hour radius of where I live, but there is something about the north that draws me. I think about living in Michigan and Minnesota, Canada and Alaska. I don't feel at home in the south at all, although I lived briefly in Florida and Texas.IP: Logged |
