I had debated about getting her declawed in the front, but she was ruining mom's couch. And right now, Sunday (my kitty) and I had nowhere else to go for the "time" being. This is our home. She's been at the vet since Monday. I call everyday to check on her. I went to see her yesterday. She recognized me, but her meow was so different.

She's been at the vet all week because she's been bleeding in a couple of places where they declawed her. The point being, they did laser surgery so... she shouldn't be bleeding. I got a phone call this morning. The vet said that she wasn't doing so well. It's her liver and kidneys they tell me. They had to give her a blood transfusion. It was something about her counts of each... I was too upset to understand the vet that my mom had to go up there. Sunday's not even "4".

I just got a phone call from my mom. She said she called the vet and that Sunday's not hooked up to any tubes right now and that I could go see her. So that's where I am going. I think that would help her to see me, to know I'm there.

I called my best friend LMB this morning crying, asking her to pray for Sunday. I'm asking all of you if you could send her love and light as well and positive thoughts of healing. I'm going to put a link to her picture here.

The doctor called me tonight and says Sunday is still the same (he took her home with him, IV and all to montior her). Although she did get up and walk around a bit after the first time I saw her today. The nurse said her seeing me helped.

this is all such a shock... I know I have to be positive for her... but the tears come in floods at times.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the love and prayers.

Sunday is still in the vet's care. She is still on an IV. After much research, I've come to the conclusion that the actual surgery stressed her liver and caused damage. I talked to the vet this morning and he says she is doing better but is not out of the woods yet.

I've decided that I want her home where she can heal. Being away from here and in the care of "strangers" could be attributing to her depression. She perks up when she sees her "sissy-girl" (me). So, this sissy-girl is going to be bringing her sissy-cat home soon. I'll keep you posted. I've just been mentally and emotionally drained and require some much needed rest.

my to you all

Hi eternal,

I am so sorry about Sunday. All of the cats that I have adopted from the 2 ER vet hospitals I worked at have been declawed. The last one, Pheobe, I did myself at the hospital along with her spay in '97.

I understand that there have been many advances in laser surgery, but I had not heard about it being used for declawing. To declaw one must remove the entire claw, which is pretty invasive, but normally heals quickly. The two ways I am familiar with is to use a sterile nail clipper or the scapel method. I prefer the latter method. Once the SX is completed, nexaband (skin glue) us put into the openings and then sealed.

There is a fair amount of blood, which is why we put a tight pressure bandage from the paw all the way to about the armpit for at least 3 days.

I am concered that Sunday bled so much and had to have a blood transfusion. My gut is telling me that there is part of the story that is missing. Was Sunday left alone, overnight, after the surgery? Most regular vets do not have someone in attendance overnight (this is totally normal). The other factor may be a blood clotting disorder, which cause Sunday to bleed for so long.

The best time to declaw a cat is when they are 6 months to a year. We usually do it along with the spay or neuter. One of the cats that a colleague of mine had rehabilitated after being hit by a car was given to me a few years ago. I had to get him declawed at the age of 6 years. He was sore, but he did very well and was walking around within a day.

I think bringing her home would be best, as long as she is not still on an IV. All of my cats had cage rest when I brought them back, which is simply to put them in a comfy cat carrier until they are able to get around without bleeding.

Kitties need love and acceptance too. I think it's sad the way we sometime sfind ourselves having to turn out thngs, pets and people that create little difficulties in our lives. I hope everything works out for Sunday...before Tuesday at the very latest.

Oh Eternal, I am so sad for you and for Sunday. I was sitting here reading a book and I had to check the computer to see if everything was okay with Sunday. My heart is breaking for you.

I know how hard it is to lose a friend, and Sunday was a part of you. I wish there was something that I could do to help you.

My thought and prayers are with you Eternal and with Sunday.

I keep thinking about when Linda lost her kitty and wasn't there to say goodbye. My Heart is heavy today.

This is just too sad. My wife got rid of our cats last night too...but at least they have a new home. I was really PO'ed by the whole thing, but she was right. Oh landlady's dog was there first. (He kept breaking the window when he would see the cats.)

Anyhow, I'm so sorry to hear about Sunday...I will think about your loss for awhile...maybe write about it a little bit.
