What are yours, Corri?

I have a whole thread for love songs in Soul Unions . . . so I have that part answered.

As for poems, I love Shakespeare

But I also love this one Lunargirl posted for me:

Legacy of an Adopted Child
(Author unknown)

Once there were two women who never knew each other,
One you do not remember, the other you called your Mother.
Two different lives shaped to make you one,
One became a guiding star, the other became your sun.
The first gave you life,
And the second taught you to live it.
The first gave you a need for love
And the second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality,
The other gave you a name.
One gave you the seed of talent,
The other gave you an aim.
One gave you your emotions,
The other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile,
The other dried your tears.
One gave you up...
It was all that she could do.
The other prayed for a child,
And God led her straight to you.
And now you ask me through your fear
The age old questions, unanswered through the years.
Heredity or environment...?
Which are you a product of...?
Neither my darling... neither,
Just two different kinds of love.

One of dem:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
___i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

-
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Paraphrasing here: What does not kill me; only makes me stronger.

I will not wish thee riches nor the glow of greatness,
but that wherever thou go
some weary heart shall gladden at thy smile,
or shadowed life know sunshine for a while.
And so thy path shall be a track of light,
like angels' footsteps passing through the night.

~ Words on a church wall in Upwaltham, England

Harriet Beecher Stowe
"The Other World"

It lies around us like a cloud,
A world we do not see:
Yet the sweet closing of an eye
May bring us there to be.

Its gentle breezes fan our cheek;
Amid our worldly cares,
Its gentle voices whisper love,
And mingle with our prayers.

Sweet hearts around us throb and beat,
Sweet helping hands are stirred,
And palpitates the veil between
With breathing almost heard.

The silence, awful, sweet, and calm,
They have no power to break;
For mortal words are not for them
To utter or partake.

So thin, so soft, so sweet, they glide,
So near to press they seem,
They lull us gently to our rest,
They melt into our dream.

And in the hush of rest they bring
'Tis easy now to see
how lovely and how sweet a pass
The hour of death may be;--

To close the eye, and close the ear,
Wrapped in a trance of bliss,
And, gently drawn in loving arms,
To swoon to that--from this,--

Scarce knowing if we wake or sleep,
Scarce asking where we are,
To feel all evil sink away,
All sorrow and all care.

Sweet souls around us! watch us still;
Press nearer to our side;
Into our thoughts, into our prayers,
With gentle helpings glide.

Let death between us be as naught,
A dried and vanished stream;
Your joy be the reality,
Our suffering life the dream.
