I just read the following news item....
It reminded me of one of those old black and white movies....actually one was on the TV the other week (giant ants)
But this is a true news report and I was thinking "how Uranus in Pisces is this!

And like they said in the movie Jaws "just when you thought it was safe to go into the water
Here's the news report.......

Invasion of the Giant Crabs

IN an amazing science fiction-style turn of events, giant crabs released as part of a Russian experiment are taking over the seas.

The king crabs, also called Kamchatka crabs, can weigh as much as 8kg and measure more than a metre from claw to claw.

Originally the crab was put into waters near Russia to give fishermen there something new to catch, but with no natural enemies their numbers have been growing and slowly moving West.

The king crab has been spotted on its way to the North Pole, and last year was also found not far off the coast of Norway.

The huge beasts eat almost everything in their path, including fish, sponges and seaweed. They have left some parts of the sea bed completely barren, and scientists fear they will damage food sources for other fish.

However, the good news is that they are edible, to the delight of Norwegian fishermen, who plan to catch 200,000 crabs next year.

Suddenly the idea of going crab fishing sounds really fun and justifiable. Too bad I don't like seafood.
