I'm having some difficulty figuring out public transportation routes that I need to take by just checking websites. There are so many to choose from!
Metrobus, Metrorail, Metromover, and Tri-Rail. ack!
I'm flying into the Ft. Lauderdale airport and need to find out how to get to the vicinity of the intersection of SW 3rd Ave and SW 18th Terrace in Miami.
Can anyone help me out??
I am overwhelmed by all the websites.. I'm flying out tomorrow morning and need to figure this thing out today..
any help would be greatly appreciated.

A good place to start is to call the Ft. Lauderdale airport and talk to someone at the help desk.

yeah, I suppose that's probably what I'll have to do. I was just hoping to know ahead of time since it'll be a Saturday evening when I arrive and I'm not sure how late or frequent public transit runs..It would be nice to just go straight to the bus or train and hop on. I'll try not to stress about it. I've never been to Miami before and I'm alittle worried about arriving all by my lonesome..gosh sometimes I feel like an 10 year old child freaked out by the prospect of traveling to a strange city alone. I guess I shouldn't be so concerned..it'll work out.

The other alternative is to take a taxi.

too spendy.. I'm waaay strapped for cash. I really shouldn't even be going but it's something I feel powerfully called to do, so.. I'm going with just enough money in my pocket to eat and ride the bus here and there..

Good luck on your trip and stay safe. I am planning on taking a trip to a place I've never been to by myself too next year.

Thanks, Aphrodite.

Normally I wouldn't be so worried about going to a new place by myeslf but for some reason, the idea of Miami is intimidating to me. I've never been there and it's got this reputation of being a 'tough' city in some ways.
It's the poorest major city in the US and there's like a zillion and a half cops prowling around the place right now with the notion that people like me are there just to destroy stuff. Kinda freaky.

I heard you are planning a vacation for yourself..didja decide on a place to go?

i didn't know that miami is a poor city. how do you mean when you say, people "like me"?

i haven't officially decided on where to travel to. the idea i like best thus far is jasper. i looked up two businesses that offer accomodations, guided horseback riding, canoeing, meals and transportation to and from the airport in a package. with the exchange rate, the price does not appear to be expensive.

new york city is also a place considered. i was looking up hotels yesterday and found a few that i really like.

oh sorry..I didn't mean to be vague..
like me...I meant people decending on Miami to protest the FTAA. The police are harrassing anyone that remotely looks out of place.
Apparently, per capita, Miami is the poorest major city in the US. I don't have my source for that info at the tips of my fingers at this moment but I've heard that from a few sources.

jasper? that sounds exciting. I must say, the Canadian rockies are absolutely stunning. I love horsebackriding..that would win me over right there.

Aphrodite~ My brother is a Chef, and he is currently employed at a resort called " The Jasper Park Lodge" He said it is very nice and popular during ski season. I will ask him for more tourist and insider info, the next time I talk to him, and I will let you know. Might as well promote his place of employment, right? As an aside, he is a fabulous cook, pioneering fine recipes and being very creative with his palate and taste. So if they hire a man like that, it can't be all bad, now can it? ( My brother would blush if he heard me talk about him like that!) He says the mountains are absolutely breathtaking and majestic, and he swears they change every day... If you study them you can see faces in them etc, now, he's been known to smoke the bud though, so I don't know .......
Whatever you decide, we would welcome you to Canada. 'Cept that I live in Ontario, so it would be a long distance welcome!

Hi Harpyr

I don't know where the airport is in Ft Lauderdale but you will be traveling down
I-95 to Miami. It's about 28 miles to the intersection you mentioned which is in or very near Coral Gables.

You may already know about mapquest.com. You can go to http://www.mapquest.com/ enter the address or intersection you're looking for and it will produce a detailed map for you. You can then get driving instructions from the airport if you know the address and if not, then the city of Ft Lauderdale. In any event, the directions will take you south on Interstate 95.

Good luck!

thanks, jwhop..

whew..I'm off to the airport in an hour..
golly I'm much more nervous than I expected to be.

I keep having weird dreams of my son's deceased father..he grew up in Ft. Lauderdale..I'm wondering what it all means.

Don't know why exactly but I have some kind of nameless dread about the whole thing. Like flying into some sort of inferno.
But as the witches say.."where there's fear there's power."
I'll just keep reciting that as my mantra I suppose.
Or as they say in the Shambala warriorship..
"In order to experience fearlessness, it is necessary to experience fear."
well I'm off to a good start on that one.

I think maybe I may be experiencing this fear because I've been holed up in my apartment with my son and my beloved for the past 2 and 1/2 months without going out much.. not I'm not only going out but going to the other side of the country all by myself and that freaks out my fourth house Monus (moon/venus conj.)

okay..enough babbling..must finish last minute packing..
see ya all in about a week!
