I'm thinking of having my navel pierced. The only thing stopping me is that I have had 2 bad ear piercing experiences (both times a piercing gun was used: once the earring became imbedded in my earlobe, another time it was so badly infected I said "the hell with it" and let my ear holes close up). I do have a tattoo on my hip and that healed very nicely, so, does anyone want to share any of their navel piercing experiences?IP: Logged |

I have a friend who thought she could pierce her own belly button. Oh, she numbed it and cleaned it, and I watched her attempt this, sitting in her kitchen. "Cyn, you can't do it yourself" "Yes I can!" "OK, go ahead."Cyn pricks skin a few times with needle. Thrusts needle in my direction. "Here, YOU do it for me!" Noooooooo Way! She eventually had it done by a professional. This was a while ago, but if I recall correctly, it's important to go to someone who DOESN'T use just a needle. They need to create a hollow path of some sort, through the skin and flesh. Not sure if I'm explaining it correctly. Cancerianmoon, love your sig line! Good luck! IP: Logged |

thanks cancerian moon and trillian. I'm going to do some more research before I get it done. Probably in spring time. I'll keep you posted. IP: Logged |

Navel piercings take the longest to heal. Some people have never gotten theirs to heal completely. Average length of time 6-9 months. The problem is there is always something rubbing on it..pants and waistbands. These are the biggest cuprits. If you already have had issues with healing, the navel may not be the best choice. I know from experience, and also about 25 friends who have had this done, so I am not basing it on 2 people. The most common response when I ask about navel piercings... "if I had known what a pain this would be, I wouldn't have done it."They are cute, not to be totally pessimistic, but require LOTS of care and patience. IP: Logged |

Hi Purple, What about a waist charm or one of those "hip" chains? I have seen them on people, like Beyonce and they are quite flattering. I have been looking into them as well, but I haven't found one to my liking yet. I am too chicken and too weirded out about getting a belly button ring or any other piercing outside of my ear range. I've had mine pierced for about five years now. It didn't hurt at all. You just have to make sure you keep it very clean while it's healing and don't wear clothes that will tug on it. I also have my tongue pierced. It did't hurt either. The only bad thing about it was that when I showed them to my parents, they asked me if doing drugs and other bad things. I wasn't so they eventually accepted them. IP: Logged |

Fairy star~ You could've always told your parents before, in a very serious voice- " No, mom, dad, I am not doing drugs. I read somewhere that oral sex is very pleasureable with a tongue stud, so that is why I got it.Also, I think navel rings are very sexy, and having both means I will always have a date! Which means....... GRANDCHILDREN!!!!!!(Eventually.) I wonder if they would've preferred drugs? IP: Logged |

LOL I can just see their faces if I had said that too them. Probably look something like this. I was really young at the time, around 12, and got them done by an older friend who did tattoos. Knowing my parents they would have never let me see the light of day again had I said that.
