OK, was told a weird story today by a reliable stable person. Gonna pass it on to you, because I can find no verification of it yet. Here goes.A couple in a small city nearby had a cat. One day, noticed another cat in their yard, so they start to feed it. It seems friendly, so they decide "let's keep it." So...they bring it inside. Go to sleep that night, wake up the next morning, and their original cat is dead. The new cat killed it. At this point in the story I furrowed my brow and said "Wow, I've never heard of such a thing!" The teller of the tale gave me a meaningful look, said "Wait, there's more." The concerned couple took the new cat to the Vet. Upon entering the exam room, the vet said to the couple "Please calmly back out of the room. Do not make any sudden moves. But leave the room immediately." The cat was not a cat. It was, according to my friend, an "Asian Rat." What it was doing in a land-locked city, heck, a land-locked state!, I do not know. I can't even confirm that such a thing exists or what makes it resemble a cat! But according to my friend (actually my sister's friend), this has happened before. I've searched www.snopes.com, I've searched google...nothin'. Anybody ever heard anything like this?? I'm not especially gullible, but it came from such an intelligent sincere woman! I'll have to find out where she originally got the story... IP: Logged |

That almost sounds like one of those urban legends, hey? But I've never heard THAT one before. I can't imagine a rat would have a cute face like a cat, would it? It would LOOK like a rat face, pointy nosed and all. I'm having a hard time believing that they didn't notice anything weird about it's face (and body for that matter)*shrugs* Could happen I guess.IP: Logged |

Yeah lioneye, the more I thought about it, the more I thought, c'mon, this is BS! But the woman who told me sounded so convinced, so sincere, and she's not a stupid lady! This morning I checked the urban legends page, and found a strkingly similar story about a "Pakisanti Rat," that someone allegedly mistook for a dog....so I think the 'mystery' has been solved. OK, call me gullible!

Hi Trillian, hmmm don`t feel duped. With the smuggling of exotic pets by ignorant people, it`s been bizzare whats turned up in the U.S. I couldn`t find it at Hoaxbusters either. Perhaps it`s so new, it hasn`t been documented. My only question is: how the heck could anyone NOT know a rats tail from a cats tail? One has hair and one doesn`t. Anyhow, thanks for sharing Congratulations on Moderator juniperb ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |

Its somewhat different but pretty much along the same lines as a scary story I once read in one of those books a kid buys around Halloween to get ready for the spooky slumber party. It can't be all that new.. I remember hearing about it about ten years ago.. It was an 'asian rat' in that story too. It gave me the heebie jeebies then and it still does now..*shiver*IP: Logged |

I found something about a large Asian rat as being called the Bandicoot Rat http://journeytoforever.org/at_rats.html http://www.britannica.com/eb/article?eu=12288&tocid=0&query=two-tailed&ct= It doesn't look much like a cat though. Maybe the people had sight problems. LOL

I hope that isn't true! If it is, that is frightening! (and those people need their vision checked )IP: Logged |
