I need to write up a discussion about same sex couples and their right to have children. I have a few ideas but my tutor really wants me to argue this in depth. I have a few ideas but I just can not seem to get started. It is due next week and I was wondering what you guys thought on the subject. What do you think of, IVF for lesbians, or another party having the child for a same sex couple and adoption for same sex couples. Any thoughts on this would be really helpful.

I personally have no problem with it. The point is for the child to have a safe and loving home. In many cases, hetro-couples haven't done very well in this area.

Hi Magenta.
I have never been in a same sex romantic realtionship, but like Lanny, I don't see anything wrong with people providing a loving home for kids who need it. One point...females do not necessarily need to adopt as they have the option to bear children themselves, through artificial insemination or whatever means they choose. It is the men who must more often depend on adoption as their only means to add children to their families. I think current attitudes on same sex realtionships could make it more difficult for them to adopt. I don't know if that helps with your paper, it was just one thought.

Thank you so much for your replies.

It is such a hard topic for me as I am not really that passionate about it. First I thought a child deserves a mum and a dad but then single parenting would be wrong and I do not really think it is. I see just as many kids with problems with 2 parents as I do with 1. Then I thought about peadophiles trying to get access to kids and thats one scary aspect. On the other hand, kids can be abused just as easily in traditional families. One minor factor could be that the child may be teased about having gay parents and kids can be so cruel in teasing. Then again, you only have to be overweight, poor, not be into the popular music, clothes or a little slow to get teased.

Oh well, I will keep slogging it out.
