We brought ours in last night to acclimate the critters to it.

It`s an eight foot Balsam Fir and it`s stunningly perfect. In a traditional style, I decorated it in large shiney glass bulbs, hand crochet ornaments, candles and red velvet bows. I wrapped it all in tinsel, fading lights and twinkley ones. To top it off, a beautiful

Tonight it`s beautiful, what tomorrow and the four leggeds bring is another story!

Merry Christmas

You know, in my family we don't really do the Christmas Tree thing. We've just never gotten in the habit of cramming a ten-foot tree through our six-foot doorway, of decorating it, of watering it, and of cleaning up the dropped pine-needle mess afterward. But my friends' and relatives' trees always look great when I visit them.

This year I'm going to suggest that we put the gifts in the fireplace.

Oh yes...tree is up...lights twinkling, kitties purring, dog sleeping on the couch, woodstove with a pot of stew on top, and two feet of snow. I just love Christmas.

Juniperb.... I want to come to your house for christmas.... Your tree sounds lovely and beautiful....do you think the critters will knock the glass ones off though? *ever the mom question, I can't turn that off, sorry*
My tree is up too. But this year we bought a small artificial one, as we can use it forever, and even last month, I still found pine needles hidden from last years tree! (I do housework, as does my family, no worries, but that is how invasive they are!!!)So we decided no tree. *sigh* I do so love the scent though.

We got our Yule tree up last weekend. It's abit scraggly but I love it. It smells wonderful and its got personality. So far just some lights and a handful of homemade ornaments. We don't really have the cash to buy ornaments so this week we'll be stringing popcorn and berries and making ornaments out of cinnamon dough. Lots of fun. Having a tree makes the house feel so cozy.

For the past couple of years we have brought in a growing redwood tree from the backyard. Now it has grown to big to bring inside. This year we bought a 5 1/2 foot Noble Fir. It is very cute. Last night we decorated it and it is country style with white and colored lights and cute country style ornaments.
The puppy is trying to get at the tree and ornaments and the older dog is growling at her like leave it alone!

Nawp, no money for one this year; I tried to make a fake one out of paper to tape beside the fireplace, but it was so awfully ugly that I couldn't bear to put it up (though the coloring was fun).

Everyone's sound so grand
I'll just cozy up next to the descriptions of ya'll's.

Everyones sounds so lovely too

Nope PP, no worry about the bulbs or tree. The tree is tied to the wall in 3 places by sturdy shoe laces. The bulbs are also tied on the branchs. Gotta be one mommy step ahead of the stalking kitties. The dogs lay between it and the woodstove, either guarding the tree or hogging the heat

When the season is over, the tree adds it`s glamor outside to shelter the winter birds I feed on the porch. Yup, I do a needle spot check of the four leggeds every night. You`d be surprised where I find them.

I find it all worth the hassle tho and am brewing cinnamon & spice on the woodstove to smell the place up.

I love Christmas

what a waste of trees unless you buy the kind that can be planted after christmas.
I have evergreens in my front garden, I hang lights on them, they look very festive with the snow on them.I feel very sad after christmas when I see all the dead christmas trees that have been used for a short time,
but have taken so long to grow.
a tree lover.

Aw don`t Fishy, I`m a tree lover too

We plant alternate Pinus/evergreen species on alternate years. I have Scotch pines,Spruces, some rapid are growers. Albies : Balsam & Douglas( fast grower) firs, Cedars, Cypress, another fast grower and the famous MI jack/white pine.Naturally lots of Junipers Seperating our house from the road is a hedgerow of a combination of 30 foot pines and cedars .

As a landscaper, my eye sees trees needing thinned out occasionally to let seedlings grow as they can`t compete (heathwise) for nutrients, h2o ect. So the type of tree we cut is based on who needs thinned, damaged by winds, sapsucker attack or other factors. After they have graced my home, they are used to shelter and feed the wildlife.

I redecorate the tree outside with pinecones stuffed with peanut butter, oats and peanuts. Homemade suet, and other concoctions to nurish the critters. Chipmunks, birds and rabbits find shelter among it`s branchs.

So each tree serves a multitude of purposes all bound with love.

Merry Christmas Fishy
