Are ladybugs supposed to be around in winter? I have dozens and dozens of them all over my bedroom (and outside my window). Not that I'm complaining. They are the cutest things! It just seems odd to have them around this time of year, especially inside. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Randall, they`re Asian lady beetles (Harmonia axyridis). The South imported them to eat aphids on the crops. The buggers migrated North and we`re having a heck of a time with them too. They seem to love our soybean crops. They drive my kitties insane and they (kitties) wreck havoc chasing them. Take em back Southland, they`re a pain in the butt When you touch them, they emit a stinky odor and they do bite! Not painful, but annoying when on the face. The dogs hate them and their odor and leave them alone. Oh and the juice they emit to create the odor stains fabrics too. juniperb

These ladybugs have no odor and don't bite. When I touch them, they play possum and "faint." ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

Randall, those are the kind we have in PA. And they've been everywhere! I don't kill them, and the cats now ignore them. But now and then they sneak under my feet and get squooshed.IP: Logged |

Randall~ My Oma ( Dutch) had a lady bug issue every winter...sometimes year round. They lived in her front window, didn't bother them, and barely buzzed around the house at all. Come to think of it, I wonder how they ate and stuff?! Great mystery. So, you are not alone. I remember many times, visiting for christmas, and I'd look at the ladybugs, as a regular occurance. Mind you, this is Barrie, Ontario, she lives in. We get ladybugs outside in droves at the end of summer. They crawl all around the outside of the house, and fly in, as soon as you open the door. My kids love it. They're not creepy, so I guess I don't mind either. Cicadas on the other hand, are creepy! Junebugs,half-creepy.IP: Logged |

I don`t mind bugs at all. Just one of natures wonders What I do mind is my house being tore up, things broken and the brouhaha that ensues when the four leggeds spot a herd flying around. All he** breaks lose juniperb ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |
