WHOOPIE!! I'm going on a holiday!!! My friend and I have a freindly competition going to see who can lose the most weight by then. I don't want to lose any more than 10lbs, because I'll just look sickly, but I want to get rid of the holiday chubs before I get into a bikini....

Looking for the do-all-end-all rapid weight loss diet, without making my hair fall out or making me feel weak throughout the day...in other words, relatively healthy weight loss.

Any suggestions???

Hey Lioneye68, some great tips on losing the weight are getting rid of sugar from your diet-I use Splenda-when you want to snack, snack on veggies or fruits. Light dinners are good b/c your metabolism is slowest at night. fat-free or reduced fat milk instead of whole or half-and-half (very fattening). i lost a significant amount of weight by doing that, watching my portions, and incorporating regular exercise (doesnt have to be strenuous-take a long walk every day-it will do wonders) into my regime. Have a good time!!

oh, also, if you're a big bread and pasta eater, i would cut that as much as possible. i love it, but luckily never crave it.

So, basically, drop the carbs, eat light at night, and get some exercise.

Sounds easy enough. What are some good "light" dinners? When I think "light meals" I think sandwiches, but you say avoid bread and pasta. How about pita's? That's full of carbs too I guess, hey?

Hmm..well, I was working late a lot, so I opted for the lean cuisines every now and then (and they seem to be the fad here at work ). Maybe a salad with a meat/protein in it? Steamed veggies? I have a couple of friends on weight watchers and that really helps you learn portion control. it's a good program!

I lose 10 lbs every April right as rain. It`s because I get more physical labor in. I don`t adjust my diet at all. Just start my landscaping 10 - 12 hours a day I burn calories while being to tired to do the fork exercise

Oxy`s input is what I know most people do and it seems to work.

Woo Hoo happy holiday

Light bread is good. But stay away from things like BAGELS. Yes, they are delicious, but they are an easy way to injest hundreds of calories (i did you not-400+) into your body in one serving. Just be conscious of nutrition facts and serving sizes. Very often when we think we're hungry, our bodies are actually thirsty. So drink lots of water too.

"I did you not"? Yeah, I'd remember that. LOL..just buggin ya!

Oh, I hear you about the bread thing. Not a huge bagel/croissant/bun etc fan anyway, so no biggie there.

How about rice? Is that a no-no too? Is there such a thing as low carb pasta? LOVE pasta.

I DO drink alot of water, and I normally work out regularly, but I've fallen off the wagon somewhat since the Christmas Season began. But, it's time to get fricken serious now....bikini holiday or not. (although it's a great inspiration for me LOL)

Yeah I think it is. I had done Windsor Pilates and I think I lost like two or more pounds in one week and that was just the twenty minute work-out. There is a 50 minute workout too but that is more strenuous so I don't recommend it at all if you are just starting. I don't want you to hurt yourself. The twenty minute one is fine. I did it everyday and I saw results in the first week on my hips and my face!! IF you combine the Windsor workout with eating Subway everyday or most days (that's what I did) you should see such ridiculously good results. The commercials do not exaggerate, I'm telling you.
Of course as with any new workout routine, consult your doctor before commencing the exercises.

P.S. I think that you could do a rush delivery if you need it now.
Windsor Pilates WHOOOOOOOO!!!

Anyway if you don't want to do the exercise, eating Subway's cold-cut trio (what I did) works too; everyday, that's what I know about.

Hmmm. Eating out every day...that could get expensive! And the carbs...there's alot in bread, isn't there? Oh well, apparently this worked for you, hey Silverbells?

I've actually been hearing alot of good things about Windsor Pilates. So there's another endorsement LOL.

Lets both try, shall we?
I am unhappy with the way my clothes have been fitting this winter. At least they still fit, but not as nicely! I don't know why I overindulged so much. I know if I commit, no matter how much chocolate I see around me, I will hold steady if you do. Moderation, portion control, no binging ( emotional for me....) and more activity...so hard in the winter, especially when I am more spiritually/ intellectually inclined lately.
But I am saying it here..... I will lose weight... ten pounds.. if that, is all I need also.
Good Luck!!!!

You're on, Pixie baby! We'll just have to trust one another to be absolutely honest about it. No sense in cheating anyway. The REAL reward is in the accomplishing.

It's only 2.5lbs per week. Should be easy enough, huh?

Oh, I suppose that means no booze too. Bummer.

Well, there are very little carbs in mixed drinks..... just mix with diet pop/soda/ whatever you want to call it. ( How about Coke?)
But, I am afraid the beers are out.

Hey -
Sure, 10 lbs in 4 weeks should be attainable.

I lost weight very simply -- i ate what i wanted ONCE a day, drank a lot of water, and ate nothing after 4pm. LOL - i even drank beer while the pounds were falling off.

Hey, beer doesn't have to be out. I drink Millers Lite and its only 3.2 garbs per glass.

Believe me, the low carb way is the easiest way to go. You can have eggs and bacon or sauage in the morning, Cheeses and nuts for lunch, an d now Brauns has a low carb ice-cream that is 2 carbs for a cup. And then for dinner a aslid, staek, chicken or pork.

It doesn't come any easier than that. I've lost right at 50 lbs, and I feel great.

3.2 garbs - that's not bad. LOL.

Oh, so you CAN eat veggies on a low carb diet. That't a relief. Just skip the potatoe, or pasta, or rice, or bread...meat and veggies is ok though. That's good.

Is fruit allowed? I love fruit. I have fruit time twice a day, every day at 10:00am, then again at 3:00pm. I'm notorious for my "fruit time" around here LOL. They know not to expect anything from me when it's fruit time. Actually they're starting to join in now. We all sit and eat fruit and 10 and 3...it's funny. And it's a reason to take a break. Hey, smokers are allowed to take breaks to go for a smoke, so I think we're entitled to two fruit times a day as well.

well lioneye, you could eat fruit as it is better for you than the other types of sugar, but it still has sugar in it, and thus is relatively high in carbs.

Any DIEt that doesn't allow fruit, is not healthy. At least long-term, IMO.

The Suzanne Sommers program is a modified Atkins, that allows fruit but only when properly food combined. Fruit is used quickly by the body and must be eaten alone, with no other foods. It is best to eat fruit only in the morning, and then leave at least an hour before eating anything else.

Food combiners like myself will tell you that you can help your energy to soar by eating only fruit in the morning.

Of course, the Atkins folks will tell you their energy soars with eggs and bacon.
Though really, Atkins IS essentially doing proper food combining (not mixing starches and proteins).

To each his own.

Generally I follow proper food combining, but not always. Gotta have pizza sometimes.

Will it help you lose weight? Dunno, some say it will. Here are some links about food combining:

Trillian~ Just thought I'd let you know, I gained fifty pounds when pregnant with my daughter, and found success taking it off with Suzanne Sommers' guidelines.( I don't know though, breastfeeding had ALOT to do with it!) I loved the recipes too. I thank you for reminding me about this now, as I do want to lose some weight. Theproblem is, I jhave gained weight, but I can't mention it to my real-life friends, because the minute I do, they call me insane and kind of move on to another topic. But I see it, therefore it is legitimate to me.
Thank you for the reminder, I will open the book and take a peek again. Renew my fervour. ( Be passionate about words instead of chocolate!!!)

Hi, cool thread!!
I need to get thinner around my stomach/hips/thighs area by November, 10 months, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips, I'm TRYING to stop eating bread but adore it!!
BTW the reason I need to lose it by November is my sister is getting married and I'm gonna be a bridesmaid!! yaaaay!! But I need to fit into a small dress which is rather tight (she chose it!!) and just wanted to lose some weight.
Good luck on your holiday, hope u get nice and tanned!!!

pixelpixie, if you're uncomfortable with your gorgeous self (I've seen your photos), then do whatever it takes to feel good!

I don't follow the S. Sommers program, or Atkins, 'cause I just can't face eating sentient creatures. I'm a vegetarian, though I do eat some dairy and a little seafood now and then (I do feel guilty about the seafood, though).

I'm not a skinny girl though I've tried nearly every diet on earth trying to be one. I am hypothyroid and it is a constant battle for me, if I don't watch what I eat, I would easily become a 300 pound person! I mostly stick to whole grains, veggies, fruits, whole wheat pasta, soy cheese, etc. One day a week I indulge a bit.

What I've learned is that we are all different, beauty comes in many sizes and I am tired of Madison Avenue telling us we all have to look the same. I'm tired of being told I can't be beautiful if I'm larger than a size 8. So I eat healthfully and make peace with myself.

But I understand the struggle, I know what this world demands of us, and wish you all the best.

Here's one of my favorite recipes for a sandwich that doesn't involve bread-

Wrap a chicken patty (I use the Boca variety ) in a purple cabbage leaf that has been slathered with Veganaise (eggless, no cholesterol, mayo alternative that tastes abit different but BETTER IMO) mixed with a variable amount of brown rice miso. (I like alot! ) ) Add onions, tomatoes, avacado or whatever other veggie to float yer boat to the cabbage pocket conveniently created by the natural shape of the leaf. It's great even without veggies added. The key is really the miso.. the flavor of it combined with the cabbage and chicken is greeeaat.
Well..I've never had it with actual chicken..just the soy variety but I imagine the real thing would be tasty too. Real mayo would probably be allright too but the Veganaise does have a unique taste in an of itself that I crave.

I also second the motion of Drink Lots of Water.

That sounds yummy Harpyr...I'll try it. I usually use Nayonaise, but I've been eyeing up the Veganaise at the health food store.

What's the Veganaise made out of? What does it taste like? My sister makes wraps out of cabbage or lettuce leaves as well...only she stuffs them with all sorts of things mixed with sticky rice, which helps them hold their shape. But I guess we'd have to cut the rice out of the mix and use the cheese for that. Melted cheese is good for holding stuff together... MMMMM...Melted cheese
