If anyone besides me is in the New England Area especially in Boston then you will understand what I'm saying.

It is freakin' cold up here, and it's like Hell has frozen over just for us. It's so cold that they actually had to cancel schools because the bitter weather would cause problems to the already terrible heating.

It feels like 40 below 0, but it should be about 16 or 20. Never in my academic career have they ever closed school for a cold day. I am making history not going to school right now. This is the coldest day since 60-100 years ago. If you have any exposed skin it will freeze in 30 minutes.

This is the reason northeastern people are mean, snippy, and they hardly smile. It is too cold to bother.

..........My butt, my toes, teeth, nose and the snot uncontrolabley drips while braving the high of -20 and snow knee deep.

No record set here tho... gotta reach -37 mean temp for that. Running the faucets to keep the water from freezing and exercising the llamas to keep their blood flowing. Yup, it`s a cold un alright

Aww, yuck. Sorry to hear this, Starlover33. I think my little nose would fall off if I was there.

What folks do for fun when it's so cold like that?

I think I would be

I'm in PA, woke to a sunny 0 degrees this morning, wind chill made it feel like -17.
So, it's balmy compared to New England.

But...it is a simply gorgeous day. The snow crunches under foot, the sun is so brilliant it makes diamonds on the snow, the sky so blue it circled the sun with a rainbow this morning. Though with no rain, I suppose it's an arced prism of color...or perhaps, a snowbow.

For fun? Well, I know there's a Fire & Ice Festival in the area this weekend, Aphrodite! The ice part is ice sculpting, dunno about the Fire. Maybe they burn stuff to keep warm!

Those of us who live in these cold areas just adapt. Tonight, I will sip good Irish Whiskey with a friend as I get ready for my impending trip to the Emerald Isle (6 weeks to go!)...tomorrow, I will have an extended lunch/gossip fest with a friend or two at a local pub, and no plans tomorrow night so it might be me and a DVD.

to you all, stay warm, juniperb good luck with the llamas and all your creatures...and have a lovely weekend.

I hear you StarLover. I'm in Rhode Island and it's COLD. I'm 33 and I can't remember it ever being like this. At least for this length of time. Schools were closed down here too. bbrrrrrrr

"mean, snippy, and hardly smile" Hey, those are good, old-fashioned Yankee traits you should be proud of!

My butt is totally frozen too. The heat is broken the offices on my side of the building..including mine.

I have had so many cups of coffee and tea that I am contemplating setting up an annex office in the bathroom. LOL..well, it at least warms me up a bit..the hot liquid that is. LOL...

It never gets this cold in Laguna Hills, Cali.

brrrrrrrrrrr

Please please please remember your four legged is cold too!! Bring them in!! Outdoor critters should have extra calories during this cold spell. Check between their toes for ice balls and salt clumps. Keep them dry and they will you for the extra attention!

It's been unseasonably warm around here latey...+5 degrees celcius yesterday, 0 today...Freezing rain is our biggest concern lately. Try driving on THAT crap! We had that blistering cold about 2 weeks ago, and I am awfully glad it has moved on! Bummer for you easterners though...it's picking on YOU now. Not much you can do but brave it only as much as absolutely necessary, and stay home and cuddle with somebody warm as much as you can get away with (without losing your job or getting kicked out of school).

Our cheeks are nice and rosy and comfy cozy are we

I wasn`t going to blame the Canadians but......... must be a conspiracy cuz the weather man said this blew in from, you guessed it, Canada!!

The Alberta Clippers move fast so I don`t mind that gift, but this, this dear Canadians, you can keep out there on the tundra

Actually I`d be fine with it as I grew up here it is a natural event just not for eleven straight days. Yet with the critters, it makes it constant survival for the weak/sick and yes, I`ve had 400 lb llamas`s in this tiny house to keep them well in the subzeros.

Keep comfy

okay everyone..when you feel cold..just be happy you don't live here-

This picture was taken in my home town of Fairbanks Alaska when it was -48.
That's ice fog..it's so cold that all the moisture particles in the air have frozen. If you were to go outside with a pot of hot coffee in this weather and throw it up into the air, it would vaporize entirely before hitting the ground. Really. I've seen it myself. It's freaky.
The temperature is below zero so often that when people refer to the temperature..say it's 20 degrees.. they say it's 20 ABOVE for clairification. People looked at me funny when I moved to the states and said stuff like 'boy, winter is nice here..it never drops below 30 above!'

soooo, people may wonder why someone would want to live in such a frigid place.. there are some incredibly beautiful things there that make it well worth it for some folks..
Check this out..had to share..it's sooo beautiful.

"Aview of the sun and a phenomina called sundogs from the top of Ester Dome on New years Eve at 1:05 PM. Microscopic ice crystals in the air reflect the light in a colorful rainbow that forms a circle around the sun (not completely visible here). The ice fog lays low over the city. Folks down below cannot even see this sun without driving out of town." (which isn't too hard to do.. out of town isn't far at all.)

Yeah, juniperb... It's sunny today, but still soooooooooo frigid. Can't remember when it was last above freezing.

I was chatting with a friend in Ireland. North of Dublin, everything was shut down, roads were jammed and closed, because of the snowfall. They got half an inch.

HUH? Lower fifties Thats balmy and swimming weather

Trillian, half an inch ey, I have that much on my head simply walking to the barn lately. Spent the day shoveling snow off the roofs. A solid three foot was on all the barn roofs. Time for a hot bath and a hot toddy
