Since you are our resident expert!

The long-wearing lipsticks--do ANY of them work well, and look good?

I tried a couple and was very disappointed, threw them out and can't even remember the brands. One brand made my lips look lifeless dry and dead!

I hate to keep investing in them if they're all the same.

Thanks for your time sweet lady! And if anyone else has had any experience with 'em, love to hear it!

K, here goes....
The main idea behind them is that it is mainly a pigment, mixed with a solvent, you apply it on your lips, the solvent dissolves, and the pigment 'stains' your lips.(eg: Covergirl Outlast/Max factor lipfinity)
You have to make sure your lips are in good condition, as it really does dry them out. I wouldn't suggest wearing them all the time. If you want the lasting power, I'd try using the lipcolour part, but forgoing the topcoat in favour of a blistex lip conditioner or something similar. That way, you are actually treating the dryness issue, while wearing colour.
The kind that last, but are moisturising, don't last as long, but they are still a good alternative to the drying ones.(eg: Colour endure-L'Oreal, Maybelline-Forever lipcolour) I am only talking the drug store brands, cuz thats what I know.
They will last through alot, without drying, as they are rich in pigments, but if you eat a salad with dressing, it's half gone. If you keep reapplying these, it does 'build up', so it is best to try to wope it all off before reapplying for the freshest look.
You can make a regular lipstick last longer by the old standby- lipliner either in the colour of the lipstick, or in a flesh tone, applied all over the lips, not just outlined, and apply lipstick from the tube, pressing well, blot lips together, blot on one ply tissue (without too much lint preferably) You can even apply some pressed/loose powder, then reapply the lipstick. It should last a good long time.
I hope this helped.

Thanks sweet lady! Really appreciate it...so L'Oreal and Maybelline are the ones you recommend the most, with all rich pigments?

Ooooh. Now THIS would make a wonderful subject for the new forum.

pixel, have you noticed that the colors of the long wearing lipsticks are always a little bit "off"? There seems to be something...I don't know...orangy about them. How come? Either they're drying or they don't really last or I can't find a decent color. It's like looking for the Holy Grail. Have either of you tried Stila's long wearing version? It looks just like a marker. Nifty. But it only comes in 3 or 4 colors. The one I use is called smooch. It's not the perfect color but it's close.

trillian, there is a site I wander into now and then called Make Up Alley. Lots of skincare/make-up reviews and that sort of thing. Might help.

Fun!

My Chanel and Christian Dior lipsticks always seem to last longer than the others.

Although they don't last as long, I really like Trish McEvoy (love her eyeshadow), Benefit, Clinique and Prescriptives lipsticks as they tend to feel nice. MAC lipsticks are too dry, in my opinion.

I have a couple Lipfinity lipsticks. They were on sale (buy one get one free)

It DOES last through just about everything. it is dry.. but doesn't *LOOK* dry. I agree I wouldn't use it all the time. I'd use it er.. for a .. um... 'romantic' interlude and for a night out on the town where I'd get to drunk to reapply a normal lipstick

In complete agreement on the MAC lipsticks. And it's a dam# shame because the colors are good. Never did understand all the hoopla about their spice lip pencil though. Too brown. Christian Dior is lovely. Once upon a time they had a color called, I think, romanesque? Loved it. Discontinued. Lancome and Loreal both taste and smell funny to me. I recently purchased a Laura Mercier called pomegranate. Very creamy. Very moisturizing. But not thin or goopy like a gloss. Sadly, it doesn't last.

I am just this second realizing that I have never owned a Chanel lipstick. My Goddess!Blush, nailpolish, eyeliner - but never a lipstick. What have I done! How did I let that slip?! Now I see what's been missing in my life all along.

TINK! Christian Dior discontinued my favorite color, Sugar Cane, but replicated it under a new name. You might want to ask someone there if they have something similar.

Oh, and Chanel lipsticks smell really good too.

Thanks soo much for sharing, ladies!

You know, some of my favorite lipsticks are the moderately priced ones. I've tried some more expenisive ones, lots from Estee Lauder, and have always been disappointed. I've never tried Chanel...maybe it's time!

WOA, I'll give the Lipfinity or the L'Oreal a try...'cause I was thinking in terms of romantic interludes too! I like a really matte/moist look, if that doesn't sound like too much of a contradiction. But for a little hey-great-to-see-you-kissin', I think one of the long lasting might be best.

And thanks for the site, Tink! I'll check it out.

Anyone want to recommend a color for a redhead? Everything seems to turn the color of my freckles and comes out orangey. Even the beautiful brown sugar shades. (My favs.)

I get the Just For Redheads catalog, but their products are way way to expensive.

ooooh! My favorite subject lipstick!!
I hardly ever go anywhere- stay at home mom, work at home mom. I sit in front of the computer working all day while the kids are in school, but I still feel the need to go apply lipstick every hour or so. LOL
My favorite is benefit benetint lip balm, with a nide lipliner underneath. Or else I love Clinique Almost lipstick in black honey. Natural- but better

Lipstick even when you're not going out? I respect that blythemeteor. That's the mark of a true cosmetics fiend. Black honey is one of my all time favorites too. I want desperately to wear benetint (it's so cute!) but it's too bright for my ghostly pale skin. Someday I WILL track down the perfect color lipstick and if I have to buy everyone in the store to find it then so be it!

I love Benetint and Black Honey lipstick! Has anyone tried Clinique's Bamboo Pink lipstick? It is conservative and very sexy at the same time! If anyone has dark brown hair, olive skin, and blue eyes (like me) you should especially try it. I have been using it for 3 years and gone through about 15 tubes. I have such a hard time fining good colors for me.
