Do you listen to and why?

I will start off this topic.

I listen to ROCK,POP AND ALTERNATIVE music.

I grew up listening to the radio and they played rock, pop and alternative mainly.I still listen to that same radio station today as I did when I was growing up.
There was tv in our house when I was growing upbut we only watched in at nighttime,so we listened to the radio during the day.I still prefer music over watching tv.

I'm a country fan myself, maybe because I grew up with it and live near Branson MO.

I like movie scores. James Horner, John Williams, Michael Danna, and Danny Elfman are a few of my favorites. I don't know why I like the stuff, I just do. People at school think I'm a real weirdo.

I also like Japanese pop. Angela and Orange Range are my favorite singers right now. My mom is half Japanese so she got me into it.

I think it's a little hard to put some of the bands I listen to into categories. hrmmm..

Alphaville is usually considered Synthpop.
Duran Duran is pop.
Rammstein is like Industrial Heavy Metal with Synthpop influences.

I also listen to a lot of old "New Wave"

As to why I listen to this or that - it really depends on my mood and what I'm doing. I love to listen to Rammstein when I'm going out dancing and getting ready. I also like Rammstein while driving although I tend to speed while listening to them so I have to watch it!! Alphaville is just soothing and puts me in my happy place.

I love all music, but my favorite ones are bluegrass, rock, and new age.

I can get into just about any genre, depending on my mood.
I lean towards classic-form jazz, pre-mid-70s rock and folk, some newer stuff...but I can listen to less-twangy bluegrass, country, R&B, swing...I've even begun to dig my husband's fascination with the Ramones.
Death Metal/Heavier Metal generally makes me cringe,
UNLESS I'm driving on I-95...then it's essential.
"More Human Than Human" by White Zombie'll really help you get through a nasty traffic snarl.

Sometimes I do

She seems to really dig John Coltrane (going *nuts* when I play him), but she moves for almost any type. Her Papa's disappointed that she's not more into surf rock and the Ramones, though.

Lately the most music I listen to is Oldies.

50's and 60's music makes me feel "home", "content" and "happy".

I LOVE 80's music as I graduated from high school in 1983. Unfortuneately I can't tune into the few miniscule 80's radio stations there are. For example, I love the movie "The Wedding Singer" as it is 80's-based (as well as Drew Barrymore as one of my favorites).

I like alternative and metal, not the really fast speed metal. My favuorite band in that genre is Sepultura. My all time favourite is still The Smiths though.

Why? Because of my aqaurius rising sign i have always wanted to be an individual and the mainstream music just didn't do it for me! ( I do like some eighties music and 70's disco though!)

Psst Prox, ya forgot mandolins a very important instrument in bluegrass. I grew up on it too & my dad played banjo. Can`t say as I like a lot of it tho.

The newer genre of it is ok ie: Ricky Scaggs Alisson Krouse (sp) Vince Gill.

Thank you, gloomy sag

juni - Yeah, that's what I meant when I said, "Less Twangy Bluegrass,"; the newer stuff is better suited to me (though I must admit there's some awfully pretty stuff on the "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack.

I especially like "Hard Time Killing Floor Blues" played by Chris Thomas King. http://www.obrothermusic.com/audio/088170069_06.wav
(Although that's kinda more Blues...)

New Grass is nice, too - what's the name of that band out of California (I think)?

I'm pretty open when it comes to music. I can tolerate most genres.

But if i have my choice I'm more of a metal/ punk rawk fan.
My favorite band is Tool.
Haha, chances are if it's loud and aggressive I'm gonna like it.

Ooopps, and why i listen to this?

For Tool, it's really just an experince for me. I can't describe it. You should feel what you're listening too...I hope that makes sense. The lyrics just blow me away, it's like someones crawled threw my head and made what they found into songs. It's like some one else out there understands...

As for punk and metal in general...I've got alot of engery, and so do they. They get me up and going, although I'm not sure why. They're just fun for me

I listened to classical almost exclusively when I was a kid because that's what my brother played for both of us. When I was in high school I realized that human voice can be enjoyable too. It was then when I got my first radio.

When I was in a university I was introduced to jazz by one of my friend and was immediately hooked. I just love saxophone.

Lately I'm kind of having a love-hate relationship with hiphop because my ex loved it and even though I like it too, but sometimes it brings memories that I'd rather leave behind.

Anyway, my favorite genres are classical and jazz. I listen to pretty much everything. Radio, baby!

Rock - Classic Rock and Metal.

My favourite band is AC/DC, I listen to anything from Iron Maiden to Judas Priest and Def Leppard to Saxon and Metallica(old) to Megadeth and Van Halen to Aerosmith and Nightwish to Therion and Scorpions to Hammerfall and Helloween to Dream Evil and Black Sabbath to Deep Purple and Accept to Primal Fear.

hhmm why do I listen to these? I find this music genre to be pure and stimulating. I can't stand rap and hip-hop. Pop is okay with me.
