Received this in an e-mail recently

Facts on Figures : There are 3 billion women who don't look like super models and only eight who do.

Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14.

If Barbie was a real woman, she'd have to walk on all fours due to her proportions.

The average woman weighs 144 lb. and wears between a 12-14.

One out of every four college aged women has an eating disorder.

The models in the magazines are airbrushed -- not perfect!

A psychological study in 1995 found that three minutes spent looking at a fashion magazine caused 70% of women to feel depressed, guilty, and shameful.

Models twenty years ago weighed 8% less than the average woman.
Today they weigh 23% less.

~Beauty of a Woman~
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman Is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
The passion that she shows.
The beauty of a woman
With passing years -- only grows.

An English professor wrote the words, "Woman without her man is nothing," on the blackboard and directed the students to punctuate it correctly.
The men wrote: "Woman, without her man, is nothing."
The women wrote: "Woman! Without her, man is nothing."

The Images of Mother
4 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 YEARS OF A! GE ~ Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 YEARS OF AGE ~ Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 YEARS OF AGE ~ That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 YEARS OF AGE ~ Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS OF AGE ~ Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

I agree with this empowering female email.

I just want to say though, that Marilyn Monroe was the equivalent of about a size 6/8 these days. The sizing chart has changed much since her day, so a size fourteen then is about a size 6/8 now.
But it still feels good to read, right?

No, I didn't realize the changes in the sizing chart. Then for that matter, I didn't know Marilyn wore a "14" either, lol. Oh, well. Being a fan of hers, I always found it comforting that one of the most beloved and remembered symbols of beauty had a figure more voluptuous than not, by today's standards at least, and yes that does feel good.

Actually I used to have a friend who was about Barbie's proportions. Uk size 8 waist, and 34dd boobs. Never did I see her topple over BUT she would have men toppling over her !
Yep, I could do with empowerment...feel like crap regarding my body recently. Better stop buying magazines.

I've heard that before about Marilyn's size, and I've always wondered why she looks so slim for a size 14. It's hard to believe she was a 14.

My friend's father worked for Mattel, and they needed a name for the new doll that was coming out. My friend's name is "Kathe"........her father named the new doll, "Chatty Cathy".

The real Kathe grew up with the real Barbie and Ken, who were real brother and sister in real life. (who the dolls names were chosen after).

Just thought I'd share that info.

That info about Chatty Cathy is interesting! I was a VERY little girl at the time, but I DO remember that doll.

What a flashback I won a Chatty Cathy by selling the most tickets at a church raffle. I must have been about 7 yrs old.

Do you think this is an accurate stat?

I don't know about the weight stat. I can think of several ladies who weigh more than 144 lbs. yet wear sizes as small as 6/8. Of course, height, bone structure, weight distribution, and just the way it is "carried" (not to mention huge variations on sizes because of material/brand/etc.) should be taken into account. Who knows? Those stats could have been fabricated by someone trying to remind us and our daughters the importance of the Beauty of a Woman statements. Does this come with the wisdom of maturity? Perhaps. I'm only sorry I didn't learn to become comfortable in my own skin earlier...

Okay, this is my first time to this forum, but I have very personal feelings entwined about weight issuses....

3 years ago I was a size 6....from eating dissorder, not really by choice though....

Now I'm a size 18, yes I know that I'm large, and it does bother me, but I know that I look better now than I did at a size 6.....Okay, for Marlyn Manroe...how tall was she....if she was 5'4" a size 6/8 would look natural....but at my height of 5'9" It looks annerexic (sp?)....Since being pregnanat and getting to eat on a regular basis, I have gained a lot of wieght...some of wich I should loose = ) But also since then I have realized that skinny is not always best....even most men don't want someone who looks like they haven't eaten a great hamburger or a great pizza since they were 12 years old.....I dont' love the way I look, but I know now that I would never go below a size 10 for my height and body figuration.....I have wide set hip bones, since I hit puberty, and even a toned, strong size 14 wouldn't bother me one bit.....the thing i think that women today should pay attention to is body type and just being stong and happy with who you are....that atracks not only good men but the right ones.....if a man is so concerned with physical looks he's not really worth the time....all women go through a huge change with bearing children and if he is so caught up in looks that he can't see past the end of his own nose, then he won't be able to see the woman underneath....the woman he was suposed to fall in love with. Life is full of suprises, you never know what is around the corner....just be happy with who you are and the right one will come along = )

Please be safe all

Love and Light
