Its called Isostatic Rebound. On the central coast of British Columbia, there are flat areas that were beaches in the Pliocene era. Now they are as much as 200 meters above sea level. That means they have rebounded over 600 feet in 10,000 years. Also, that is the best place to locate some traces of ancient cultures. Most of the areas are very remote and the coastline there looks like lace, with waterways intertwining around mountains and forests. It will take dozens of decades to explore them all. I was cruising around the Bentink Arm and the Dean Inlet a couple of summers ago in a boat. You should see the rock art! I discovered a ton of stone artifacts that are over 8,000 years old. Man, I love archaeology!

Geez, Prox, for a minute there, I thought you were bailing out...lol...not that Canada wouldn't be happy to have ya, of course.

So THAT'S why the water levels of many of our lakes are getting lower and lower. That's kind of a bummer.

FishKitten, what's the name of your little mountain village?

Kootenay Lake area. I have also lived in Edgewood, Hills, Howser, and Crawford Bay in the West Kootenays and in Windermere and Edgewater in the East Kootenays (among many other places). The other places in Canada where I have spent time are Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Banff. I was once in Toronto for a week, but didn't care for it much.

Oh yeah, I forgot Coquitlam, Burnaby, Bella Coola, Hagensborg, Victoria, Sooke, Tofino, Kelowna (and the rest of the Okanagan), Osooyos, Oliver, and Williams Lake. Now that I think about it, there are lots more. What area are you from?

I'm an Edmontonian, born and raised...and I'm big enough to say "Go Flames, Go!!" (ok, that was a little bit hard lol)

I've heard of some of those towns, but a good number of them I have never heard of. They must be just wee little blips on the map. I've spent alot of time in the Okanagan, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island as well. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L.

I spent much of the summer of 1989 in Edmonton. It was an interesting place. I couldn't believe how big the mosquitos were! I once lived 80 miles north of New Orleans right on a bayou and the mosquitos weren't any bigger than Edmonton. I think the winters would be too much for me.

Oh, yeah...Go Flames! (My second choice after the Canucks.)

Cool! My sister lives in Baton Rouge, and I went to visit her during Mardi-Gras. We drove up to (or would it be down to?) New Orleans 3 times...I couldn't get enough of that colorful, historically rich atmosphere, especially the French District. It felt so psychically charged, that area! I love - love - LOVED partying Mardi Gras style on Bourbon Street!!! Did you do that when you lived there?
