That doesn't mean they have to have national fame.
My closest meeting a famous person was one of the set designers of HEE HAW! He was my professor in college. Oh and another professor who wrote a few very contraversial books. I'll be back with that info in a bit... Ok, she's done much more since I last knew her. Camille Paglia. Whew! I got A's in her class (Women and Sex Roles) and she could be wickedly funny! She's on the web.

The most famous people I've ever met were customers at a Borders in Alexandria where I worked.

"Patch Adams" was a regular there.
Not surprisingly, he's quite a quirky guy (and looks nothing like Robin Williams), but was always nice to me.
He'd come in and buy stacks of books for his patients, and had two requirements of the cashier:
1) All the price stickers had to be taken off
and
2) He wanted no bag.

Dick Cheney's the other.
He came in once to get some stuff he couldn't find at another Borders. It was so busy that day that I didn't even notice the fact that the store had become flooded with secret service guys. Someone said, "The Vice President's here!"
To which I thought, "Oh, cool - the VP of Borders. Neat."
A bit later I looked up to see him in line (yes, he waited in line just like everyone else) just as I was calling for the next customer. The conversation was something silly like, "Good afternoon, Mr. Cheney."
"Good afternoon to you - how's your day been?"
"Interesting so far..."

Don't know anybody famous, personally, but my cousin's husband used to manage the rock band Papa Roach. Also, I have a friend who has a friend who's met Brandon Boyd (vocalist for Incubus) and he said he wasn't really nice. And I've been within a few feet of Chuck Norris (he was watchin his stepdaughter play volleyball at a tournament at my school.)

Dan Millman, the author. He is a customer where I work and he and his wife are very nice. I have his book and had no idea he lives in my town! I told his wife that I was sending my poetry to the goverment for copyright, and she is the one who advised me to send it "delivery confirmation".

Pretty much met a few when I lived in L.A., but none that I can say I ''know'' very well. Tim Roth was a regular at the pub I worked at, which was very cool. Super nice guy, always wearing a beat up old jumper and jeans with Dr. Martins. Also Kathleen Robertson (Claire from 90210) and Maura Tierney (Abby from ER). Maura Tierney is beautiful in real life, and sooo tiny!! She got a little drunk on wine once and walked into the kitchen looking for the bathroom. Alan Selka, who was the butler in the All commercials, then voiced the butler on Kid Notorious. He really was an English butler, always wearing bow ties and a vest with a pocket watch and hat. Very classy. Then one night outside the Trubador I was hit on by Mike Einziger, the guitarist from Incubus. Kinda cute, but he's only about 5 feet tall, and I'm 5'8, so it just looked kinda funny.
When I worked in theatre in Maine, I met Michael Butler, the original Broadway producer for ''Hair'', which was really right on. And one of the girls in the cast's father was friends with Martin Luther King Jr's daughter, and she came to see the show. That was pretty amazing. She looks like her dad.
At L.L. Bean in Freeport, I saw John Travolta one, and Stephen King, not on the same day. I didn't talk to them, I was afraid I'd say something dumb like, ''Royale with cheese'', or ''jeez, you really are creepy in real life''....

I think that's about it.

"Royale with cheese." Good one!

Philbird, a class with Camille Paglia! I'm envious, that must have been fascinating. Would love to hear more about it.

Famous people I've met...David Cassidy, Davy Jones, Beach Boys (all part of nostalgia tours I was involved with), stood close to James Hetfield of Metallica, George Carlin, The Eagles...I think there's someone else whom I can't recall.

But who I'd like to bed...er... meet is Bono. Yum.

Country singer Sara Evans is from my hometown. She was two years ahead of me in school, two years behind my sister. It's been years since I saw her, but she and her husband just bought a house outside of town, so we know we'll see her once in a awhile.
My parents are Republicans and used to know Kit Bond rather well. In fact his wife was at the baby shower the Republican Ladies held for my mother before I was born. When I was a kid the Girl Scouts would go to the state capitol a lot. I remember one time we got to meet him (while he was governor). He remembered my mother. I also met Ashcroft once.

Oops, just remembered another one. I met Mel and Jean Carnahan back during his first term as governor. I was volunteering for the Missouri River Festival in Boonville, I think the Kansas City Symphony played that night. I was handing out programs. Both Mr. and Mrs. Carnahan were very polite, asked how I was and such.
How is it I meet political people so much?

Oh, Anybody ever hear of a group named Cinderella? They are infamous to Philadelpha, and known world wide in the 90's. (I'm not a music buff)
Anyway, I drove horse and carriage with the lead singer's mom. The band was always hanging out where we worked. I think I've met Jon bon Jovi, who "discovered" Cinderella and also hang with them. They were heavy metal but eventually mellowed a bit. So I met all the band members, but didn't really care since I wasn't into the band scene.

I met the guys from Sugarcult, talked to their guitarist for a bit, got his autograph. This was a couple of years ago when they weren't too big yet, they were playing in a club near my house.

Besides that... umm... I sat three rows away from the mother of the king of Spain when I was in Madrid at a show by this guy named Rafael with my granny.

Matter of fact, I spent two lovely hours today with Cheryl Farrell, who is part of the "Clue Crew" on Jeapordy! I don't watch the show often (hardly ever), but she was a lovely, wonderful person.

I met Cindy Crawford on a photo shoot once when I was an intern for ABC. Also met Helena Christensen. I met Tyson Beckford at because he models for Polo Jeans Company, which is where I work. I met the two DJ's from "Nostrom", which probably no one ever heard of but they were my favorite dj's for a long time. (from Europe). I met the former lead singer from the band "Ned's Atomic Dustbin". His name is John but I forget the last name. Also met a star from "All My Children" but now I forget what his nams is! Hmmmmm.... who am I leaving out??? Oh, Diane Sawyer and JayZ (or however you spell it). JayZ's office is right across the hall from mine, actually but he is hardly ever there.....
Last but not least -- I got a personal letter from Brian Austin Green before he was famous and used to answer his fan mail.....
Never met him though.
I feel like I'm leaving some people out but if I think of anyone else, I'll report back!

Wow... mine seems silly compared to all of your cool stories.

As you may know, I grew up in Southern California. I went to high school with Wanda from Doogie Howser MD. She wasn't one of my friends. I knew people that knew her (... or of her, rather), and it was said that she was not a very nice person.

Also...

On my 13th birthday I decided to have my party at Skate Depot in Lakewood (... wonder if it's still there?). Well, it just so happened that Brice Beckham (Wesley from Mr. Belvedere) was there too. He found out it was my birthday somehow (probably some medeling) and asked me for a couple's skate. We held hands Didn't talk much though. I was too nervous.

I've met Carol Kane, Elle McPherson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden (Bruce Dickenson - accidentally, at a club in Auckland of all places), Tom Jones, and umm, I know there's someone else but I'm drawing a blank right now...

paras ~ no. MayFair and I only began speaking properly at the beginning of this year (although we've known each other and talked a little bit on and off for 3 years or so before that).

Philbird,

I had Cinderella's tape and used to play it over and over. "Shake Me"!

I went to their concert with Bon Jovi in my early 20's, many, many moons ago

Okay children? Time for a "more mature" knowflake to reveal her age, by mentioning some of the most famous people she's met...*sigh*

Let's start with MICHAEL LANDON...

HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN
LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE
BONANZA

My sister and I used to sing professionally, and I met him while he was also giving singing a try..and we were on the same venue...except we were one of the opening acts...Great thrill tho...and he was a darling person...

Rainbow and Michael Landon

Same deal for the next guy...JOHNNY CASH (when we were both much younger) and Johnny was also a wonderful person...

Rainbow and Johnny Cash

Love,
Rainbow
