This is extremely random, but I'm trying to figure out the name of a movie I saw as a kid, and cannot remember the name, or find it on google.

This is an animated sci fi/fantasy film, I think made in the 1980s?

It takes place in a fantasy world, where a man meets with a council of elders and has to accomplish some task. There are some evil robot drones, and some mutants (one has arms on its head) that he meets. I recall him swimming through an ocean and interacting with an enormous brain? Either at the end or the beginning of the movie he is resting in water.

Ok this is a really vague description, but hopefully it will ring a bell for someone, thanks!

The Abyss? I've never seen it, but someone was talking about it's plot the other day...sounded similar.

The Abyss is about an underwater expedition that discovers unexpected life at the bottom of the sea...including what appears to be a sort alien city.

Was it part of a "Heavy Metal" story?

Possibly Japanimation/Anime? ( Before it became this huge influx of money making storyboards and advertisements...)

Its not the abyss....this is definitely animated..

It's not a part of heavy metal, cause I've seen that multiple times (its awesome)..but the animation is sorta similar to heavy metal, I believe this film came out about the same time.

The only really defining feature I can remember is that the hero must swim inside a giant pink brain in the sea to inject it with some sort of a poison. The brain is the villain..It could be japanese, but it was in english, no subtitles, when i saw it

Maybe you can type a discription in here and see what they say? I at first googled mid-eighties.. but then you said it _was_ in the style of heavy metal. So we'll see.
I will keep looking for you and if I see one that looks close, I will post it.

Other than that, I truly believe and have found in my experience, if something pops into your consciousness with any regularity, it will resurface in your life.. something random will open it up and you will have your answer.. maybe even to something else.
