If you were trying to decide where to live out of the following three locations, which would you choose and why?~Boulder, Colorado ~Greensboro, North Carolina ~Santa Fe, New Mexico ------------------ "When you are in touch with the suffering in the world, it is so easy for despair to overwhelm you. But we do not need to be drowned by despair...How can we stop ourselves from collapsing in despair? It is because Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are present in the world. They are not somewhere else in a faraway paradise. Whether we are living or dying, they are here, with us. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh IP: Logged |

If I had to choose from these three, then I'm on my way to sunny Santa Fe! Philbird... need a roomie?! In the US, I feel drawn to Seattle-- never been there, but I feel like that's where I need to be. I'm drawn to Europe, also, where I spent part of my childhood. I love the idea of having that many cultures in such close proximity. Ooooh! And India! Geesh... makes me want to leave town RIGHT NOW! IP: Logged |

I asked about these three locations because this fall I am going to end up at one of them! (not sure which yet, still trying to decide)The only one I have actually visited is Boulder, and it was sooooo beautiful. lalalinda~ Yes, can you tell me anything about it? I would *love* to know the inside scoop. Anything you can tell me would be great. Hope everyone is having a great night. ------------------ There is not enough darkness in the world to extinguish the light of one small candle. ~Spanish proverb

My son swears by Naropa, he loves it there right now hes in his third year and hes already published and close to finishing his second. Basically a writers school with roots in the beat generation (50's) Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Ken Kesey etc. They do have a Buddist Background and it is their belief in the joining of intellect and intuition. It has an artist colony feel to it. I am still very impressed and satisfied with his choice of Schools (figures huh? he an aquarian) You thinking of writing as a career sweetie? Was it Naropa you were considering? Have you been accepted? It could be a good choice if any of the above interests you I wish you all the luck in your choice of schools and let us know when you decide IP: Logged |

I would probably choose NC. I live here now but that's not really why. Colorado sounds like a beautiful place, it really does, but it's so far from the ocean and to me it's important to be able to hop in my car and head to the beach every now and then (I lived most of my life in Miami and the beach was just right there). New Mexico has always sounded absolutely amazing to me and I strongly considered living there for a while. However, I cannot stand dry weather, hot or cold. I need my humidity. Also, I prefer lush greenery to desert landscapes and even though I would probably find it challenging and exciting to have a "dry" garden I probably wouldn't really love it. NC is rather ideal to me. You have mountains, swamps, open fields, and beaches, cities and farms, all in a day's drive. The weather is perfectly moderate ... you get a deliciously sweet and cool spring with a nice touch of rain, a hot and humid summer without feeling like you're going suffocate from it, a real show stopper fall, and a decent winter with snow (unless you live on the coast) that is not too deep and harsh (unless you live up in the mountains). It's climate is also ideal for raising a huge variety of plants. But those are just some of my personal little reasons. I'm sure you'll have a great time wherever you end up!------------------ "This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man." - Shakespeare IP: Logged |

Haven't been to NYC but I would love to live there. Let's just see if I would still love the idea when I go there this December.Other than that... probably somewhere in England. Maybe a small village beside the beach. *edit* Oh damn I misread the first post. OK I don't know much about those 3 locations so... IP: Logged |
