Well, yesterday hubby and I offered our jobs to two new tenants! Just like that! (Hubby has been really stressed.) They are qualified and we have been waiting for someone we felt we could trust to take our positions. That's very difficult in this town! So. Soon we will be unemployed. We have some time to train the new folks so it won't be right away. Didn't expect it so soon though, but I guess we got what we asked for. Thank you eathers! Anyway. We will have very little money to live on. The first thing we are checking out is the Peace Corps. Just checking. We plan to sell everything and just, be mobile. We don't have "a plan." Any suggestions? A commune type community would be cool, or management/maintenance of a park, something out doorsey! All we really need is four walls and a roof, mostly for Phil. We will have about $40.00 dollars a day to live on. It's exciting! The change. The possibilities. Does anyone have experience giving it ALL up...?P.S. Now you know the other part of the reason I didn't want to Mod. in H.H. I won't have a computer!!!! Yeeeee Haaaaaa! IP: Logged |

Oh, this'll be great for you! Several years ago I sold everything, bought some tents and went to the lake! Me, my daughter, and a friend of mine spent three months camped there. We had three tents...a sleeping/living tent, a storage tent for clothes, food and other supplies, and a kitchen tent. My son-in-law strung extention cords to each tent so that we would have power for appliances and such. We lived there for three months and it was great! The state charged $10 per day for the spot. That included water electricity and the bathroom and shower (a communal thing) We will always cherish the experience. If you had a travel trailer or camper of some kind you could travel from park to park, lake to lake...that would be fun! Good luck to you..... IP: Logged |

Saturn'sChild, please do tell more! Was it the summer months? If you had to approxamate how much it cost you to live day by day, how much would you say? Was this a vacation or destitude? The idea about the three tents is really great! Which state? Was climate a problem? Were your appliances minimal? Like a coleman stove etc.? That's really brave with a child! What did you do during that time? Vacation, find odd jobs? Daily stuff? IP: Logged |

Philbird, The time we lived in the tents at the lake was summer. We went out and set up camp on June 1st. It was raining. It took all day to get everything set up like we wanted. The sleeping tent was very large and we spred out large rugs to put our bedding on, lots of big pillows. It looked like a harem tent! In there we had a small tv and vcr (a must with a small child on rainy days) It was also nice to rent a movie, pop corn and huddle up in the tent at night. Also a stereo and cd's..gotta have my music! In the kitchen tent, which was actually a screen tent siting over one of those concrete campground picnic tables, housed the coffee pot, microwave, crockpot, and electric skillet. We also had a grill and charcoal or wood for cooking. We had small lamps in the kitchen and sleeping tents. My friend was attending summer classes at the university and sometimes had studying to do.It was hot..summertime...but we could always cool off in the lake. We also had a fan for the sleeping tent for hot nights. Actually, we had all the comforts of home except for having to walk up the hill to the bathroom...but hey, a little exercise is good. We went because we'd had a rough year. My mom had passed away from cancer and I had been caring for her for a year and going to school, working, mothering, etc. My best friend's father had passed away just a few months after my mom. We just wanted to run away! So we kinda did. I mean everyone knew where we were, but we were not as easy to get to. It was peaceful and quiet except for the weekends when the world showed up, but that was ok too. We met some really great people! I figure it cost us $25-$30 per day. The campsite was $10 per day...then food, ice, laundromat. Just depends on what kind of food you buy. We always had fruits and veggies and we cooked a lot and made salads. We had three ice chests. One was reserved for ice for drinks only...no food in there. So even at $30 per day, that's about $900 per month..not bad! Oh, and we were in northeastern OKlahoma....absolutely beautiful green country with lots of clean water...lakes, rivers, creeks....all wonderful!! There is nothing that can help you connect to your spiritual self and nature like being out there in it. Your body takes on the rhythm of the universe. You get sleepy when it gets dark and wake up feeling magnificent when the sun comes up. I have never felt so at one with it all as I did then! Hope you decide to do it...I think you'll love it! The only thing is...after the adventure was over, we decided to get a house and move in. We each, me, my daughter, and my best friend, all had our own bedrooms...but we all slept in the living room floor for about a week! LOL IP: Logged |

This sounds really exciting Philbird. I'm a little confused as to what it means that your hubby changed his mind. Will you still be unemployed? Keep us posted! IP: Logged |
