It's a new show on NBC starring Jason Lee (Dogma, a bunch of other Kevin Smith movies). http://www.nbc.com/My_Name_Is_Earl/ IP: Logged |

I thought it was great, for a pilot.Pilots are usually a little crappy... but this one was funny. I can't wait for it to unfold! I really Jason Lee. There's something cute about his skater punkish style. IP: Logged |

I watched it tonight. It was pretty good. "Office" is on now. The British one is SO hilarious. I'm interested to see how this one develops as it deviates from the original. IP: Logged |

26T- lol whenever I think about the name Earl I think of the Taurus Libra section in Love Signs- "I'd change me name from Earl to Gladys" ! It's scary how many high profile Americans think they can blag their way into looking cool by name-dropping Ricky Gervais. "Like, oh I love the Office!" Yeah, you and the rest of the world. Big deal. (Not saying all English) but here it's considered proposterously lame for anyone famous to rave about the Office, despite its brilliance. I mean, we all saw the last series, like, ages ago
Has anyone in America seen the last-ever British episode yet? Two-part Christmas special? Yes, I'm lame, but I cried watching that. Tears of joy, though obviously. EDIT: AG, tell me, does this new guy do the Brent dance? IP: Logged |

Not that I've seen.I haven't seen the last british one either. I'm not sure if it's even available here yet. The first season of The Office here I couldn't really watch, because of the similarities to the original. It just wasn't funny like watching the original. Do Americans go to England and name drop Gervais' name? I haven't seen that here. Perhaps it's because it's new to us. IP: Logged |

No no that's not quite what I meant AG, just it's interesting to see which bits of British humour Americans choose to pick up on and they say they like the Office because they know it's something they can relate to us about. For intance, it's also interesting how most people in America have heard of Mr.Bean and yet, haven't heard of another of Rowan Atkinson's creations- Blackadder, which is infinitely more funny. Or how you guys all know about Monty Python but haven't seen anything else with the same people in, like Faulty Towers which John Cleese was in, (and wrote, I think.) Hey- this is a cool idea idea- I'll tell you loads of classic Brit comedy and you can then be truely cool BBC-wise! We don't hear many Americans saying they've seen Blackadder. IP: Logged |

I've seen a bit of The Black Adder. They released a Mr. Bean movie here, and it was the first movie I ever considered walking out on. It was just terrible.I've seen quite a few Faulty Towers episodes. Someday I'd like to see Father Ted. One of my friends in the Navy was Irish (from Ireland in the US Navy, yes), and one of his brothers was a writer for it. I've seen a few episodes of Couplings. I've seen quite a few Absolutely Fabulous. I've seen some Red Dwarf. Was just going through this list: http://valdefierro.com/ I may be a bit of an exception, because I've been fascinated with your country as long as I've had my own taste in music. Kind of the way U2 used to be fascinated with the US. I've often wondered if I'd feel more comfortable living there than here. I would certainly have been more successful musically if I was raised there. My style has always been most influenced by musicians from over there than over here, and I am of the Damon Albarn, Johnny Marr, Robert Smith (there are more I know) vein playing both guitar and keyboard. No, I said that I was jealous of his looks, and wondered his sign. I was disappointed with the answer. He's an Aries. Well, I've still got Scorpio Johnny Marr and Taurus Robert Smith. IP: Logged |

How about Spaced, MNF? Or Knowing Me,Knowing You/ I'm Alan Partridge? The Fast Show? Little Britain? Nightingales? Big Train? QI? Extras (though that's currently being shown on HBO here. I've seen the whole series thanks to UK NOva)? Do I pass your British "cool" test? Your tone in this thread is a bit condescending, don't you think? IP: Logged |

Tigerlily- I was tempted to answer- "Yes, why yes you do. Join the club as soon as you pass the hazing rituals."But I don't want to fan your irritation anymore! I am sorry, but everything I say should usually either be ignored, taken with a pinch of salt, or taken as sarcasm. I find very bizarre things funny and was trying to express my secret mixed emotions about how I feel about Americans getting our comedies as a joke. Obviously didn't work. Darn! Foiled again. And yes, you're right, not only in this thread but in general as well, I AM incredibly condescending. It's one of my downfalls... even my mother told me, although it was more along the lines of "God, I can't stand you, you speak to me like you're fifty. You remind me of my Dad!" I'll try and tone it down in the future. Thank you for your helpful observation. IP: Logged |
