I just recently started wearing a stainless steel ring that resembles a wedding band on my right hand (the non-married hand).

If you were checking me out would you think that I'm married, or are you very aware of which hand the wedding band goes on?

I was completely unobservant of that sort of thing until I was 21 - that's when I asked a married man at my college if he'd like to go on a date (he was flattered, but declined).

I had no earthly idea that he wasn't single, though his ring was clear as day on his finger.
In fairness to me, he'd been very flirty.

That being said, most women'll probably know instantly that that's not your wedding band - though they may ask if it's a promise or "engagement" ring.

Since I work around many gay men and woman (as well as have friends of that orientation) I would wonder if you were partnered up. I wouldn't assume it, but I would wonder and maybe question you later if I had the chance.

Oh interesting. A female Taurus friend in her 40's thought it might indicate a gay relationship, which I'd never heard of them using the opposite finger.

LOL...they almost always use the opposite finger (until Marriage is legalize or civil unions are legalized) we have several partnered couples here and they all wear rings on that finger. In Laguna, where i grew up, men / women that were joined did the same thing BUT.. .that doesn't mean it is a sign of being partnered up. I wouldn't worry about it.

But yes, women always notice rings. As a single woman and before I met Mr. Psycho, I would steer clear of anyone with a ring on that got too flirty. Nice chit chat is one thing, but anything more than that would send me running.

In some european countries that is the finger they wear their wedding band on.

I always check to make sure, and quite often a married man gives off a vibe even if he isnt wearing a ring.

Havent heard the gay one though AG? Not sure about that.

I know lots of guys who wear rings on their right hand and i think nothing of it.

Greetings, AG!
Just an interesting FYI...
When my partner & I first met, he was afraid to approach me because I wore a band similar to yours on my right hand.
He is German & in Germany the right ring finger IS the married hand!
A mutual friend explained to him that Americans use the left hand & we've been together for 5 years!
Sooo, now, I notice BOTH hands & wonder...

Yep...I would say that 1) An American with a Ring on the left hand is FOR SURE married (or a widow / widower)

2) If the ring is on the Right hand - determine if that person is from another country (yes, we American's are aware of that one and not to sound rude, but the gay person wearing a ring on the right hand is STANDARD American and does not apply to foreign homosexuals or their civil unions) I sometimes forget about our foreign friends and answered from only an American perspective since AG is living here in the US.

3) If the person is NOT a foreigner, then find out if he is or isn't partnered up.

Very interesting stuff. I'm afraid that the independence that I project may confer a possibly married-looking image.

I love Zazzle! Had a couple shirts made there. They don't do so well with light colors, though.

totally oblivious

Before I got married I had to verify with my sister that I was, in fact, supposed to put the ring on my left hand. I never got around to getting an engagement ring. I sort of forgot.

These cultural things are so silly. Who can keep up?

I'm not a Tolkien fan, though (admirer maybe, but not fan). I think he is a Capricorn, though.

I always notice rings. It's one of the first things I see on a person.

May have to do with some married men not really caring if they're married or not. (eeesssh)

The right hand? I wouldn't really think much of it. I may ask about it. Could be a good conversation starter

Some would say being married is not a deterrent.
My friend was actually going to wear a ring, on the left hand, just cuz he wanted some action.
I don't know why, and I won't discuss the moral fortitude.
Honestly, before my twenties I didn't know or care.. now I know, but I generally don't notice marriage bands. I notice rings, cuz I like 'em .... but not their relevent significance.

If someone seems interested in you, and asks..(actually it's a good conversation piece, ain't it?) just tell her no, you liked the ring.
(maybe it will show her you are one of those men who WILL wear their wedding ring.
That's another thing.. a lot of men don't.. so we are left to speculate on his status.

I like stainless steel rings.
Plus.. you know, it won't stain.

If i met a guy with a ring on the right hand I would just think its jewelry. I would immediately figure out if it was right or left hand so I would know.

I got married in Russia and we wear wedding bands on right hand. Even though I'm now in US I won't change since in Russia only widows wear them on left finger.

Well, I'm married (informally separated from my husband now), and I don't wear my wedding ring any longer SO - I guess that makes me up for grabs?!

Mind you, my Aries father was (still is)married to my mother for 40 years and NEVER wore a wedding ring...guess we Rams find it a little uncomfortable...
