I Charity Shops! A nice half of stuff I wear is second hand. But you gotta get the quality stuff. 60's and 70's second hand are the most bizarre and fantastic, but 80's are damned good too. It's rare you'll find something average to wear 50's and predating, but wartime clothes are amazing to look at. Run-of-the-mill charity shops are less likely to have great buys but if look and know how to make it look right then it's good fun. If I had kids I wouldn't dress them in second hand though, simply because it's something you've got to discover a taste for yourself when you're older. Little kids would probably complain about the smell. lol

Most of the clothes that Meg has are from the Post Thrift Shop Very little kids clothes are usually in great shape there - they've only been worn a couple of times and then grown out of; I've gotten nice stuff from Baby Gap and OshKoshB'Gosh for $1. If I see something that fits and and that I like, I'll get it for myself. I'm pretty long and lanky, though, so that doesn't happen often. IP: Logged |

Hi Sue-I don't tend to go to Charity shops like "Salvation Army" and the like. I do donate to them though..... As far as shopping for myself or the kids, I like second hand shops that have stuff on consignment. I find stuff with the tags still on it for next to nothing.... I shopped those places much more when the kids were infants/toddlers and changing sizes all the time. It filled in the gaps. I am lucky that i have a string of friends who pass stuff on to my kids and i do the same... My best friend (double pisces) and i share clothes... We both seem to play around with 10lbs. or so... ha ha lol. I say if the shoe fits wear it!!! IP: Logged |

I have shopped at used good stores to purchase household items, books and clothes before.I don't have any kids yet and haven't decided on whether or not I would purchase for them used clothes. I personally don't think it really matters where the clothes come from as long as people are dressed properly according to the occassion or environment. I think being well-groomed and personable are personal statements of presentation than where the garments came from. IP: Logged |

The person I know who is most prone to secondhand shopping is a Virgo, too, MNF. He's an artistic type like us as well, and it sounds like his philosophy matches yours.I don't generally think to go to secondhand shops, but if I did it would be mostly to accessorize. IP: Logged |

I agree with Stargazer...consignment shops usually have clothing in better shape, when I lived in the Bay Area on the Peninsula, a few of the shops in the Los Altos/Palo Alto area some of the clothing even had the original store tag on them, probably never worn and if so maybe once. I'm 5'10 with long legs and slender and selective about my clothes but if I see something I like, will buy it no matter the price (well, within limits if expensive)Goodwill or Salvation Army is good for small appliances at a bargain, depends on the condition though. kisses!
