I'm calling for some advice please. I'm going to a birthday party in central London this Saturday (29th), and the dress code is 'Voodoo Chic'.

Now I haven't budgeted to spend any extra on clothing this month so would any of you creative bods out there have any ideas?

I've got as far as dramatic make up

Do you think I can voodoo - up a purple pleated cocktail dress?

What is voodoo chic anyway?

on Helicopter Girl's album "Voodoo Chic", the lead singer wears a top hat; also, voodoo is a blend of West African spiritualism with Catholicism, so I suppose you'd be looking at stuff like African jewellery, seagrass garlands, skulls, headscarves (bandana style), large hoop earrings, that kind of thing.

Thanks ladies I just managed to buy a pair of £1.99 bone looking (plastic) earrings - on Ebay, so I'm getting there!!

I saw Helicopter Girl's photo, kinda cool. I'm trying to find something kinda like that - and a bit Grace Jonesy on Ebay at the mo. I went to Monsoon at lunchtime and saw some gorgeous garms in there - however they don't quite fit my budget right now!

I'll let you know how I get on

Sounds like a fun party! I'm sure you will come up with something spectacular. Take pictures! I'm going to try to do the same, and post them here. (have to dress up for work Halloween party)
