This is thanks to Whalewasp78. I felt for many years that I was very weird because I am a cartoon fan, even after growing up.
Not a single other person I know so far was a cartoon fan. Many dont even remember cartoons they enjoyed as children!

So this string is for cartoon lovers.

What do you like about Cartoons? Classics or new age animation? Did you have a Pokemon craze stage? Did you ever ask where the TNT/Dynamite sticks come into Wile E Coyote's hands? Why do only Tom and Jerry change into the shape of the object they hit or eat? Did anyone do Mel Blanc's chart to see how he could have done so many voices?

Hey Iq. I have alot of good memories from the old style cartoons. I remember being a toddler, waking up at 6 in the morning, and a local station would come on air. For two solid hours, it was Popeye, Woody Woodpecker, Tom & Jerry, and some odds and ends Tex Avery. My Papa would soon sit down with me, and pretty soon we'd both be laughing.
LOL! Yes! Lovely how the character's heads would take the shape of whatever they got walloped with!
Examples: A character would get flattened into the shape of a plate, and scamper off like a crab...end of sequence.
Another classic folly: a character's teeth would be showing, add a blow to the top of the head, and you'd see cracks forming throughout their teeth, then fall out like shattering window pains! LOL! Priceless creativity!

Hey hot ice! I used to watch 'Duck Tales' fanatically after getting home from school. Do you remember how Uncle Scrooge would jump off the diving board in his gigantic vault for a dip in the coins?
Others I used to watch from the Eighties were: Dungeons & Dragons, Gummi Bears, Transformers, Voltron, MASK.
Keep bringing up those old 'toons'!
I'm not too keen on the new cartoons, though I'll watch a Spongebob Squarepants every now and then. (Of course, I think just about everyone does that!)

Later!

I cartoons!

My favorite are the old school cartoons... The Smurfs, Tom & Jerry, Looney Toons, and Scooby Doo. ( I loved Duck Tales and Gummi Bears too!! )

I like some of the newer cartoons too. My girls and I watch Winx Club together. I love the Power Puff Girls. Samurai Jack is pretty cool... then there's South Park... a whole other level of cartoon.

Alright... I've gotta run to work... I'm gonna be late.

Og-Dude ~

For the classics, count me in with the Immortal Bugs Bunny! And Tom & Jerry, Mighty Mouse, Quickdraw McGraw, the awesome Pepe lePew (never lost his cool!).....

For the 90's, X-Men rule! Wolverine is tops at our house Dragon-Ball Z was big for awhile, but there's just too much moaning for my taste

Is it wierd that I was thinking of bugs bunny cartoons last night?
I was thinking about how they designed them, shorts, and interesting little symphonies etc....
and the difference between the full-show cartoons we have now, dominantly.
I remembered I was thinking that last night, and hen I saw this thread today.. gotta love synchronicities
( I was thinking about it because I saw that Strawberry Shortcake was back on TV, and remembered my childhood.)

Wow Zala! You located Mel Blanc's chart before me! OG impressed!

Whalewasp, your dad is just the kind of dad I want to be like, enjoying cartoons with the toddlers! [And I must learn to speak like "Paw", the Hillbilly Bear, to thwart their intelligent questions...]

If I do a costing for the time, effort and cash Wile E Coyote puts into his failed efforts, Wile must be a multi millionaire.
The other standard jokes are that nobody falls off a cliff untill they feel they are standing on air, the smallest bomb has the biggest blast, whenever a bad guy runs into a cuckoo clock, the cuckoo comes out of his mouth, the cars/trains pass over a bad guy even if he makes sure everything is clear.

In one cartoon, an alien named Marvin has a laser gun, and EVEN THAT is manufactured by Acme

Samurai Jack has a lot of actual wisdom if we look closely

Salome, what do you think of Johnny Bravo

Pix, Bugs Bunny actually loses to ELmer Fudd once, in a tax fraud case! I never expected that ending. (That cartoon has a shrink brainwash Bugs with "I am Elmer J Fudd, millionaire. I own a mansion and a yacht." )

Somehow, I feel Groucho Marx was the fast talking inspiration for Bugs [and maybe Brer Rabbit from Enid Blyton for the cunning] and 3 Stooges/Charlie Chaplin for the slapstick.

Looks like Loony Tunes are the overall winners

amisha, thanks for bringing up Thundercats! Now I remember Liono, Panthero, Cheetarah (who I thought was hot for a cartoon chick!), and Mumra, their nemesis. With Woody Woodpecker, wasn't there a buzzard always after him? Yea, I remember Launchpad McQuack! I don't think he ever actually landed whatever he was flying, usually crashed it somehow...
Iqhunk, I think the reason my Pappy watched the older cartoons was because my Grandpa would watch the same ones with him, and reminded him of his youth, just as they do with me whenever I see them.
Poor Wile E! Does anyone remember Roadrunner would be on the edge of a cliff, and the edge would float in the air, while the rest of the mountain would break and fall off with Wile E? LOL! Priceless!
Does anyone remember 'Kid Video' or 'Galaxy High'?

p.s. yes, i remember thunder cats pretty well. wasn't there one where i think they went back in time or something like that? and yes, Cheetara was one of the many female role models for me, in those days.

Strong Man, Diaper Man, Tornado Man, Rope Man and Cuckoo Man for comic relief. The Diaper Man is actually a real baby but when he hears the call from the government, he takes a swig of milk off his bottle and transforms to DiaperMan. The bottle becomes a deadly weapon!

Iqhunk:

Hey!! I Johnny Bravo! I have a Libra friend that does the *best* impression of him.

I love Warner Bros. My fav characters are Taz, Pepe Le Pew and Penelope, Roadrunner, Speedy Gonzales, Chicken Hawk, Michigan J. Frog and Gossamer.

This is the entire list of everything that ACME "made" that are featured in the cartoons.
http://home.nc.rr.com/tuco/looney/acme.html

I also adore Disney's Lady and the Tramp. I fell in love with Jacques and started bugging Mom to get me a Scottie. She didn't then, but I've got him now.

Been watching newer cartoons now with all my nieces and nephews. I like Dora, don't care much for the voice of Sponge Bob, and Diego's eyes makes him look like he's high on something!
